For months a Win98SE machine will not retain the mouse (Logitech optical) properties. It was working fine for years. Now, I have to go into Control Panel on every boot to adjust pointer speed. I put Mouse Properties in Start Up to make it a little easier.

From Device Manager there are 2 mice: HID Compatible (working) and PS/2 Compatible ("...not working properly."). I remove the PS/2. Reboot. Before Windows loads, "In order to finish installing your new hardware you must reboot" with a yes/no option.

I've removed both mice and rebooted but both reinstall.

I've tried to update the drivers on the PS/2 mouse propteries without success.

It's not a big deal but it would be nice not to have to adjust the mouse properties on every boot.

    Anybody have a solution?

Try another mouse. Mice do die. I've had to replace some.
