Anytime I right click on a file in explorer it takes up to 45 seconds for the properties box to come up. It has gotten slower and slower as the years roll on. I have another computer running XP (same model) and it right clicks in a second...How can I restore my sad old computer to it's once happy self? Any help would be great...:cry Funny how 30 seconds seems like hours sometimes...

Does it happen in Safe Mode?

Try this. The idea behind it is to disable third party apps from starting up. If things work fast, re-enable a few at a time and see what the culprit is.

Thanks for the try. I did a clean boot and l still have the same situation. I'm not running any non microsoft services. The top folders in the explorer tree open fast but any file and folder inside of the top folder has the long wait time... Can you think of anything else? Thanks for your time....

Thank you. I ran shell menu view and came up with 101 files. Is this a lot? About 20 or so are disabled. The rest are working. Some are from programs I no longer have. Do I just start at the top, disable and see which are the problem files? Or is it just because I have so many? I tried pasting them to notepad so you could see them but the colums get very messy.

Sort them by type so you can find the context menu handlers grouped together. Then 1 by 1, disable the NON Microsoft ones until your problem is resolved. The last one you disabled is the culprit.

Thank you. When I sort by file type, I don't see anyone listed as "context menu handler" I must be blind. I looked in all the columns and don't see any. Is it called something else? :confused

so sorry. The version 1.01 I downloaded of shell menu view only gives me a "file type" column option. There is not just "type". do I have the wrong version? The way I read the software website it seems that all 101 files in the list are context menu items...

No luck. I disabled all non microsoft context menu items, same problem. I disabled all context menu items, same problem. I saw something about "property sheets" being the problem. Could this be something?

I think I found something. If I disable my network connection it clears the problem. I saw something on the website you sent me to. Have you heard of this before? What other information can I give you?

I got it! I had a couple of context menu options pointing at a networked computer. I deleted the registry items and I'm back in business... Thanks again for your time.:D
