So I've set my wallpaper on more times than I can count.. 90% of the time after I reboot my wallpaper is gone and my desktop is black... I can still do stuff with the black desktop as it has all my programs/folders on it but the background is black and the wallpaper isn't on it..
But if I go to my control panel to adjust my desktop it's claiming my wallpaper is on it, but for some reason it's not showing up.

I've tried a bunch of things:

Ease Of Access setting - "remove background images (where available)"
the option wasn't checked to begin with, but i tried checking it, rebooting and unchecking it... didn't fix anything

    Spyware / Virus Scan
    - Super Anti Spyware, Malwarebytes & Avast.... CLEAN

    CHKDSK - 100% completed... didn't fix it.

    SFC / Scannow
    - 100% completed... didn't fix it.

At first I had Panda Cloud Antivirus on, thought it may have been that, removed it... thought it may have been slim drivers as well removed it... problems still happen.

    Video Drivers

I have updated my video drivers to the latest available.

I apologize if this maybe classed as a "double post" from this post:
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=273737

I'm getting frustrated as anything... I even created a new profile and it has gone black again... yes as I said in the last post my windows is legit and it's activated its Windows 7 Home Premium

I also tried "removing the transcoded wallpaper & slideshow.ini" suggestion I've found... it does nothing.

Don't know if you've looked here or if you have it selected:
Right-click your desktop. Click "Personalize." Click "Desktop Background."
Clear the checked box next to "Shuffle."

yup I looked, only one wallpaper is chosen and shuffle isn't turned on.

Not off of a shared drive, or a website possibly? This is actually a issue that dates back to Vista. Control Panel (Classic view) > Ease of Access Center > Make the computer easier to see link. On the Make things on the screen easier to see portion (bottom), make sure the Remove background images (where available) is not checked.

Here is some info from Sevenforums.com http://www.sevenforums.com/customization/1030-black-desktop-wallpaper-disappears.html

You can keep going through the searches here http://us.yhs4.search.yahoo.com/yhs...t&hsimp=yhs-att_001&type=att_lego_portal_home if the Ease of Access is not the problem

Thanks for the suggestion but I have came to realize that windows 7 home premium does not have the group policy editor in it.. so i don't think any one of those issues will help me as they all revolve around exactly that

Again, you need to go through that info regardless. The registry info is the same regardless if you have pro or not. The registry info stated in both links is how you are going to fix this issue, there is no other magical solution.

It's kinda hard to do it when it asks for: RSOP.MSC
and windows 7 home premium doesn't have it either which basically means I can't do it

I tried all the microsoft ideas and still black.

Again, you do not need rsop.msc to make the changes or check the registry for the missing entries. Go back and read the post I stated the links in, and look for the post by the username that I stated in the post with the links. That post by Mervyn Zhang has the registry entries in it, that you need to look for.

It really helps if you read through the complete link, than just look at the first post, and come back here and state that it is of no help, when it actually has the info in it that you need.

Double check the registry settings again, because it should fix it. Otherwise you have something else going on, messing with your user profile.

What happens if you create a new profile, does it do the same.

I double checked the registry and everything was setup as things were asked to be.

I'll recreate my profile and let ya know how things are, it may take a day or so for me to get back it just depends on how quick the problem happens again (if it does).

after recreating my profile things once again turned black after a short amount of time... i guess i'm stuck with a black background

Do you use Rainmeter or a multiple desktop program? Some of those will have settings for wallpapers that can make things confusing. Dexpot, for example, will allow you to set a different wallpaper for any number of virtual desktops. Rainmeter themes can be saved with a wallpaper specified...

AltBo - nope don't use rainmeter or a multi-desktop program...

My plan... So I know I've had a few people try to help me with my problem, nothing has worked... So I'm at the point of giving up and basically doing something that most would call "incredibly stupid".. I got windows 7 with the first service pack on dvd here with me.. I actually got it from Softpedia, I'm going to run it and choose upgrade and see if that fixes my problem...
I'm not backing anything up at this point in time, for the simple reason of I just don't care anymore that and I basically have everything backed up at home on my external hard drive.. worse case for me is I have to toss on some distro of linux for the next two weeks until I get home but it'll give me something new to play around with.. in the event that I do have problems..

But that's currently where I stand and that's what I'm going to try, I had game issues with a few older games with windows 8 so i dropped back to windows 7, now I'm having the stupid background problem and I have no idea why, so it's kinda my "all or nothing" approach to fixing it...

But it's currently 128pm(est) and that's what I'm about to do... so here goes nothing... wish me luck...

So I did what I said I was going to in my other email, my background came back... until I started windows updates... it was one of the first 3 updates I installed that made it go black...
I already know someone is going to suggest I remove that update but that update is marked as "critical" which tells me it's on everyone's computer that's running windows 7 however for some reason it has a glitch that's removing my wallpaper..
That's the only thing I can come up with, it has nothing to do with my profile or anything like that, it has to do with the update and perhaps my graphics card or something else I don't know but that's all I can figure out.

Re: Wallpaper Keeps Vanishing... SOLVED... I hope

So after my last post I did the whole "upgrade" thing with windows 7 to the same version of windows 7, then I thought it had to do with a update that just glitches out... I investigated further... I found the problem...

Ccleaner... ok well that + Ccleaner Enhancer when you download definations through Ccleaner Enhancer one of the options that it gives you on Ccleaner is to clean Windows 7/8 Transcoded Cache.
I unchecked it and set wallpaper, things seem fine, basically that option was constantly removing the transcoded wallpaper file which made the screen come up black.

Windows 8 users won't have this problem, because of how windows 8 is set up I have the option checked on a few windows 8 computers and the wallpaper never vanishes... So if your having the same problem and use Ccleaner with Ccleaner enhancer try removing the option I mentioned and see if that helps.

I have given thanks to both people who have helped try to solve things, but that's what I found out to be the problem
