Hi. I want to dl from the net a non Vista or XP OS that i can burn onto cd/dvd to install on a Vaio that had it's original hd wiped and displays a 'no OS' error on a black screen at startup. All i really want to do is surf, dl, and play dvds. Any suggestions? I realize this is related to another post i made, but this request is more specific. Thanks for your patience.

Try a linux live CD. If it likes your hardware (sound, video, internet, printer) most live distros have an icon on the desktop that when clicked will allow you to install it.

Live CDs you might want to try: Ubuntu, Mepis, Vector Linux, my personal favorite is PCLinux but I don't think the 2009 version is ready yet.

Re: alternative OS for Sony Vaio is running!

Thanks. Installed PCLinux. All seems working except the wifi. Have posted on Linux forum for help with that. :-D
