MY dilema begins with overclocking the procesor-AMD +2500 Burton 1,83GHz -1.66 x 11.In my Bios I have the posibility to change 1,83GHz-1,66x11 ,with 2,2GHz-200x11.This way I will have AMD +3200.Is this the safe way for overclock, and do I have to do anything else before do the OC.For cooling CPU I have WhisperRock IV SPA04B4 from Spire.

My MoBo is Abit nf7-s with:
    AMD Burton 1,83GHz
    256 MB sdram
    40 GB Maxtor
    FX 5200-128 MB

Two very important things you need:
A good Quality PSU (Whats yours?)
Good Cooling I'd suggest no higher Load temps than 50c

Dont forget to run stability test, unless you like Pretty blue or black srceen's :)

After the above read than ask your Q's

    PSU = Power Supply Unit

Your PSU? What brand? Regardless of the brand it will be underpowered.
It may power your system, you might even be able to OC, but for How Long?

The PSU is a key component to any system OCing or not.
Ocing will only add extra strain.

There are risk's when Ocing, if you cant afford to loose hardware you shouldn't
If the PSU Fry's it can fry other hardware too.

I'd suggest replacing your PSU with a Good Quality Brand Name one, something like Antec or OCZ 400w or more expect to pay near $100 or more

    Temps?
You said your are 40-45c, is that your idle temps? if it is you need better cooling.

I just did some checking on your "Whisperock" as far as OCing it Sucks for cooling.
    I'd suggest getting a ThermalRight SI-97a with a Panaflo H1b 92mm fan

What kind of memory do you have, Brand & speed? PC3200/DDR400 or PC2700/ddr333?
Memory is also important, you need to run your memory at the same speed of you CPU, 1:1, if your running PC2700 you might have trouble OCing

ASUS,thank you for advice me what to do with my comp.I see now what I need for OC.If I do this is there a chance for good OC? Thanks again.

Your MOBO should be fine & the CPU an XP 2500 Barton core should easily do 2.2 GHz maybe a little more

ASUS, as an expert on this field ,about memory modules, what is your advice for my ABIT NF7-S?333or400.how to click them:1,2 or1,3(for dual chanels)and is 512MB enough for XP.What do you think about Kingstone memory?Good or bad?

  11. ASUS

I don't consider myself an "Expert"

But if you want to run 11 x 200MHz at 2200 MHz, it's a no brainier get PC3200/DDR400 (Avoid Value memory, Avoid CL3 memory NF2 chipset don't like CL3)
With PC3200 your memory will be at stock speed, you'll only need to OC the CPU to achieve 2.2GHz/2200Mhz

If you can find Memory made of Samsung TCCD chips, they are excellent OCers
    I have some for sale
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=99797
Mine run easily at 250Mhz, thats DDR500 speeds:)

    Run in Dual Channel

Amout of memory depends , 512 for XP will be fine for general use

In Macedonia I can't find Samsung memory modules only kingmax or kingstone, and some other brands whitch I think are no good for oc. In every store I go only kingstone is good they say.right or not?

  13. ASUS

    ASUS MajorGeek

Samsung makes chips for all major Memory manufactures, the brand isnt so important, Just avoid memory that is CL3 which most Value stuff is

If you want post the brand & model # of any your looking at and I'll provide any info or advice I can

    Macedonia? where is that, Greece

I also have an procesor-AMD +2500 Barton but with an Asus A7N8X motherboard. Im gonna follow ASUS's advice to use a ThermalRight SI-97a with a Panaflo H1b 92mm fan when I overclock.

Should I use any thermal paste and if so what kind?
Arctic Silver Ceramique, Arctic Silver Alumina, or Artic Silver 5?
I am also using one 512MB PC 3200. Should I get one or two sticks of 1 GB PC 3200 RAM?

    Goran.P MajorGeek

for paste arctic silver alumina is OK.But I can't follow about memory? do you want dual chane for 1 gb or?2stickof 512mb is enough for windows xp,in dual chanel.

  16. ASUS

    ASUS MajorGeek

I prefer Arctic Silver Ceramique or second choice Artic Silver 5
Ceramique, because it safer, non conductive, Last longer, cleans up easier.

    Goran.P MajorGeek

I agree whit you ASUS ,I say alumina cos I don't know how much money BOINGER could spend.

  18. Boinger

    Boinger Private E-2

    Arctic Silver Ceramique it is.
ThermalRight SI-97a is spec'd for a 2800+ Barton. Would it be a problem if I used it on a Barton 2500+? Why dont they just spec it for a 2500+ also?
    Thanks for the info!
