Hello all, I am new to MG and also new to owning a PC.

My question is what steps should I take and replacing fans in my PC. I have opened my case up and looked in side and have seen what I believe to be 2 fans. Correct? My nvidia 6600 has a fan on it.

Some help in guidance for a newb would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

ON a seperate note. Do I need a new fan? I am running a 3.2mhz intel and have an idle temp of about 127f. Is this to hot?

Im not sure about the second qeustion but if your nvidia has a fan on it should stay on it dont keep it off and then turn off your pc.. it will either blow up or fizz out.

I don't get what you are saying. If I do have right what you are saying; I would never remove the fan off my nv card.

Ok some help would be appreciated.

I got a Vaio VGC-RB30. I still have the stock fans and heatsink in it. I have not read/researched enough to replace my heatsink. So prior to that I want to replace my fans. I have two that blow out the back for exhaust and one that sucks in from the side. I have looked in my everest profile and see that my cpu is running at about 830 rpm and my system at 1316.

Any recommendations on what fans I should get to increase air movement? also what is a good rpm for each fan, are the stocks ones pretty low?

Any help would be good. Please and thankyou!

127F, that's about 52/53 degrees celcius, which isn't disastrous, but researching into a better heatsink and fan wouldn't do any harm.
Basically what 2slogan was saying is that modern graphics cards run very hot, and removing a fan without knowledge of what you're doing, or replacing incorrectly could burn your card out.
One thing that may cool your system down is to improve the airflow from front to back.. Maybe the air being sucked in is being impeded by messy cabling (IDE and powercables etc.) Tidying these up can make a big difference.

If you want powerful fans, maybe try a search on Google for "High CFM fans"
CFM means cubic feet per minute, and is a measurement of how much air the fan can suck or blow into your system. Another consideration is whether such fans are going to be more noisy, but if that doesn't bother you, then all the better.

Steeev, my cpu is a Prescott and from what I have read they run hot anyways. I don't want to replace my card fan, but rather my cpu and system fans. There is nothing in the way of the intake fan. I just think it is to slow or doesnt pull enough. Thanks for the info, please post more if you can. Take care.

Firstly, what size are your fans?
If they're 120mm, then you could try one or two of these:

But be warned, something that bungs that much air through will produce a bit more noise!
There are a lot more fans on this site, and that can give you a bit of an idea of what you're after.. Two basic things to look for are the noise level, and CFM. (I am, of course assuming you're from the US)

Thanks Steeev! I will look at this page when I have a bit more time. Yes, I am from the States! What is CFM anyways?

Cubic Feet per Minute. It's the rating of the fan based on how much air it moves.
