Okay so I have a new PC for the home office and I want access to the laptops files that I have taken back and forth from work. The laptop has remote access to my office that was setup by a contractor that has sense gone out of business.

What I want to do is access the C: from my computer WITHOUT mapping the drive so that the whole house can see it, as I have kids and this has sensitive client info on it.

Pretty much I want to have a icon on MY PC's desktop that when I double click it, it takes me to the LAPTOP C:

For the record I have a windows login as the admin on both pcs, one PC is using windows 8 (8.0 for me because nvidia is giving me the BSOD whenever I try to update to 8.1), and the NEW one is using 8.1.

I have checked and double checked, and I AM using the same WORKGROUP, my login and pw is a microsoft account so i cant get 1 right and the other wrong.

The NEW PC computer is set for full sharing of everything so long as it is one the private network, so what am I missing. All I have access to is the USER folder, and nothing else.

Is this all on the same local network or over the Internet?
Local network go to the search box and type \\pcname\c$ and use that PC's admin to connect to the drive.

Over the internet you can https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/ or use remote software like teamviewer and transfer files. otherwise you need a static IP or dynamic DNS service and your router configured to use VNC or setup your own VPN.

MAPPING a drive does not give everyone access, sharing the drive does and you have to share the drive if you want access. Have the share protected - sharing it with a user name and password keeps other out. Window 7 and 8 find shares and list them easily on a LAN, so share with a password or as a hidden share by adding the "$" at the end.

All local, this is just so that I can pull some of the larger DB files from the laptop without having to use a flash drive 50 times in a row carrying one after another.

Still just get user files, using both \\pcname\c$, as well as \\pcname\username\c$. Either way the best I get are user files

Not quite sure that's what I need either...to clarify, I think I've been saying remote access this entire time. When I say remote access, what I mean by this is STRICTLY access to the computers files, I have no desire to actually use said computer remotely. Pretty much I want my laptop to be a network drive that can only be seen by my computer. That has access specifically to the program files folder so I can get teh db files for quickbooks, and some other business db software etc.
