Not sure if that mobo is dual core capable, and who is the original manufacturer of the PC? The highest frequency processor I could dig up at the moment is an Intel 5xx series, 3.6 GHz processor, single core. And that motherboard did not return any results on the Asus website. I recommend you chat with the manufacturer unles someone out here has better info than me...

Other question, is it a Puffer, or a Grouper? You may get away with 3.8 GHz, but contact HP to see if they have anything different to say. Unfortunately, I have frequently gotten different answers from different reps in regard to the same issue, so be careful...

Yes i just got done speaking with HP about the upgrade, there telling me that the Pins are not correct and will not be able to upgrade to a Duel Core, they state that i will have to purchase a whole new board and that i should just buy a new HP computer lol, are they right or are they just trying to get me to purchase newer more expensive hardware.

I can't find an answer for you. If you really want to go with a dual core, you don't have to buy a new computer. If your case is ATX, you can just buy a new motherboard and CPU, and you should be able to swap that out in your current box. You can get a nice mobo for not a whole lot of money.

You might try contacting ASUS, and see if they can advise you.

My advice is that if you just want OEM out of the box performance, you can buy from whomever. It all really depends on what you are doing with it. That is usually the deciding factor on cost. When I build a PC, the most important result is longevity. If you are going to spend the money, it should last you worry free for at least 5 years with proper care and use. This means cleaning the dust bunnies regularly, and keeping the PC updated against threats like viruses, spyware, trojans, etc. My old HP I built in '01 lasted me until '07 with proper care, and I still use it "off the grid". It has my emulators and vintage video games on the old EIDE hard drive, and is S-video connected to the TV so I don't have to pull the old console out of storage if I want to relax and play Atari, Sega, Nintendo, or PSOne on a quiet evening of relaxation. Any rate, what is your main use?

Oh, and would you like to stick with Intel, or go with AMD?
