I would like to upgrade my processor from a 2.7 celeron to a pentium 4 w/HT.

The info for the motherboard I have can be found here.

I have the TriGem Glendale board.

My question is: Is it possible with this board and how hard is it to do, if possible? Is it similar to popping in and out memory sticks? Would it be easier to just have a pro install a different motherboard with the processor that I want, if I can't upgrade this motherboard to a pentium 4 w/HT?

Thanks for the help in advance. :)

You will need a different motherboard from your current celeron one as the sockets are different.
It's not that hard, just put the processor on the motherboard, insert the memory and then pop it in the case.
I don't know if you'll need to reinstall windows, might get away without it.

    Thanks McAdam,

According to what I could research the celeron is a socket 478. I saw on newegg.com where they sell P4 HT's for the 478 socket. Would I be able to buy one of these or am I running into limitations because of the motherboard and should just breakdown and get a different motherboard?

    Thanks again!

Hmmmm well if the socket's the same then I suppose it fits!!

But I would probably get a new motherboard just to a) be safer and b) be more up to date, but the choice is yours.
Have you considered athlon though? They are a lot cheaper, and the results, I find, are a lot better and many would agree & disagree with me here.

P4 with HT will brake the bank so to say but it will fit and its not to hard to install a new cpu all you do is unplug the computer take off heatsink thin left the lever for the processor and pull it out thin slide in the new one put a little thermal compound on top of processor and put the heatsink (that came with the new processor) on and plug it back in and i think your done lol just dont forget to plug in the new cpu fan

oh and hey you looking to sell your old processor? because i want one better thin this 2.0ghz celeron just pm me if you want to sell it

I might point out that you have a 400MHz FSB ... so you would need to get a P4 that runs at that speed ... mine is 800MHz so it would not run on your board ... further you can't put a hyperthreading P4 in there either... only a non-HT P4 will work
