Gr8, but i'll still make the donation. I have an intel(r) 82865G integral graphics controller in a new Dell Dimension 3000, and it's garbage.
My old box had a pny GeForce FX5200 which I've whipped out of the old one and into the new.
Now, I actually had it recognised at one point but the new PC decided to split my desktop into two monitors (when obv. i only have one) so I binned it and tried to start again.
I have used the drivers on the CD, downloaded two from nvidia and cannot get it to reinstall.
    Nightmare!
Whan i did havi it working, i could't get rid of the intel graphics and some games were not recognising the nvid.
I have tried stoping plug & play thru services and Driver Cleaner 3.
    Please help.

I would start with making sure you have checked the BIOS to see if you can disable the onboard video card. If not then make sure you have the latest BIOS. Sometimes they add more control to later revisions.

The onboard graphics controller has two settings:
    1) Auto
    2) Onboard

With a primary (cache?) of 1mb or 8mb. the PC is only 3 weeks old, BIOS is Dell comp. Corp. A02 08/11/04

Set it to Auto if it isn't already. This SHOULD put the BIOS in the mode of detecting if another card is in play and turn off the onboard one.

I recently had the same problems with the Intel onboard graphics, damn near drove me nuts. The only way I got the onboard was by going to device manager, click on view, then show hidden devices. You have to also disable the Intel graphics controllers. After that I never had a problem.

Just a quick recap of everything listed here to add a new VGA in place of on-board.
    1. Remove VGA driver/delete device from device manager.
    2. Reboot
    3. Enter Bios, turn off on-board VGA to off/Auto, Save to BIOS
    4. Shut PC off
    5. Install new card
    6. Boot-up PC and install new drivers

Should be simple if done in the correct order

You are a bunch of geniuses (or is that genii) thank you all for your help. One thing I hadn't done was plug in the monitor to the graphics card, i'd left in in the original place! Excellent help, thanks.
