    Greetings, ziggie.

    Don't know if you've upgraded to Windows Search 4.0 yet, but it's an improvement over the default XP search.

    If you're looking for a good, free 3rd-party program, you might give Agent Ransack a try.

    For finding files by any part of filename nothing is faster than http://www.voidtools.com/. Doesn't search within files though.
