WAP connect yes - Internet no

Hi - we inherited a HP Pavillion dv6000 that supposedly had a fresh install of the shipped with MS Vista, SP1. Its an AMD with 3GB of ram. My son largely intends to play mine craft on it for school

However as the title implies, it won't connect to the internet over wireless. I have a strong connection to my home network WAP, but no ability to get to any websites.

When we plug it into a LAN, it connects just fine. I've rebooted the modem, the WAP, the laptop, deleted the network adapter and let it reinstall, updated the adapter firmware (adapter is Atheros AR 5007 802.11b/g).

Any suggestions welcome.

Take it to a hotspot and see if it gets internet access. That way you can determine if the problem is hardware (the wireless adapter) or software (settings in your router that need adjusting).

If it is hardware, the two choices are to connect wired or by a USB wireless adapter and use that in place of the onboard wireless.

Hi

Check in Device Manager for any device/s with any yellow ! marks and let us know what they are?

Can you see wireless networks when you check the wifi connection icon in the system tray or in Network and Sharing Centre?

Follow the advice HERE and see how you get on. I wouldn't do the System Restore bit though as I don't think that will help as this is a newly installed PC.

Just as a quick question addon, what security software do you have installed, please name all?
