here's a warning notice that really went up my nose in its attitude. really ballsy. what's up with this?
"Your display is set to 256 (or less) colors. This application deliberately is stripped off indexed color support, and unless you will provide a valid reason to do otherwise it is going to stay that way.
Meanwhile, do yourself a favor and switch the display to Hi-color or Tru-color mode."
Are they serious with that "do yourself a favor" attitude? and I have "to have a valid reason"? What gives??

that doesn't sound like any standard error message that I've seen.. sounds like a nasty got on your system and had some fun..

do you have an antivirus on installed?

if not, I can recommend two free ones and an online one..

    HouseCall Online Scanning

    --------
    AVG

    AntiVir

I suggest going to the first one and scanning.. when that's finished, if you don't have an antivirus installed, please install either AVG or AntiVir.

thanks guys, i appreciate that info. my problem is further complicated by the fact that i can't access the internet. i've been trying to reload my windows 98 and i've been receiving notices like "Windows98 Setup The file 'Base 4CAB' on Windows98 CD ROM can not be found. you interrupted Set-up while it was copying windows files from a Setup (.CAB) file"
and an error details message that reads: "The following error occurred: "Setup Interrupted (error #65) Setup could not finish opening a file on the source disk. Source file 'E:\win98\Base4.CAB' Destination file: 'E\win98\Base4.CAB=Precopy1.CAB'

you need to somehow get one of those antiviruses onto your pc.

AVG and AntiVir are free so you can burn them to a cd and install them on your possibly infected machine.

    or

remove the hard drive and put it in another machine THAT HAS AN UPDATED ANTIVIRUS ON IT and scan the drive using that.
