Please DO NOT DL this application. Anyone who is a Majorgeeks admin please, please remove this incredibly "nasty" app!!!!!!!! Test it if you don't believe me on a not-important PC!!!!!!

I did ~30mins ago, as I installed it came up with the old "Non-Verified.....blah blah.. (from MS)" but coming from Majorgeeks I thought it should be fine, and then found it would not work on my system OS (XP64) which can happen often with many software applications that cannot "function" (??) in a 64Bit environment.

So rather than have an extra application "potentially" taking up memory I used Your Uninstaller2008 to remove it. I have been using the different versions of this app for 4-5 years and swear by it. During the uninstall I noted it had created a lot of "file associations" (~13xx) but didn't think to much of it at the time, believing that such a small app for music needed such a thing. As the uninstall continued I observed files from Windows, Firefox, AVG, etc etc were being removed, "ALARM BELLS", in the top scrolling bar line I noted "Deleting C:", WTF. I couldn't stop Your Uninsatller2008 and didn't want to stop it half through being left with partially corrupted files as I knew I had a restore point and would prefer to let it finish and then restore to an earlier point (yesterday thankfully). So before I logged off I went straight to my previous restore point and thankfully "saved" my system. Upon re-boot I had just the Windows Logo and mouse pointer (ouch started reaching for my OS Disc and beginning to consider the "overwrite-reinstall method"), but I thought let's re-boot once more. Screen finally re-populated everything coming up with the restore screen (in OS), but all "security" apps were corrupted and either switched off or just not functioning. Thankfully I have a 64Bit OS behind a router, but I am now having to uninstall "corrupted" security applications and re-install them again.

Words defy me as to exactly what this VERY NASTY application had attempted to do (I wont even pretend to be a programmer!) but I am a geek and have concentric circles of security which this app "seemed" to try and disable and corrupt my whole OS if I was a complete unattentive n00b.

Please do not allow my favorite site to fall into disrepute because of this nasty application and remove it ASAP.

Well have spent greater than 2 hours now trying to repair my OS and I think that certain components (xxx.dll!?!) have become so corrupted that I cannot get AVG (my AV) to work again! There is possibly something running absolute havoc here at the moment. I have run chkdsk but got an all clear but my system is still showing signs of impediment! This is a VERY nasty file!!! DO NOT DOWNLOAD it please.

One can only speculate that it has been written by music marketing co's in an effort to stop pirating of written score!?!? That they want to put in a tracer and a disabling device if you try and remove this nasty app.

I Play guitar and wanted to run my own music score throgugh it and got burnt.

This piece of shite is basically a "corporate" software monitoring f.#%$#ing shite that wants to a). put a monitoring component within your system (if it doesn't get it it's way it f&*%^&g messes's with your allowance capacity).

I am so trully pissed with this thing at the moment I cant state loudly enough DO NOT EVER INSTALL it, and we know who is behind it!!!!!!!!!!!!

    But that would be racist!?!

One problem with Windows is that there are literally thousands of hardware software variations, not to mention the types of malware out there that can be set off by yet another of thousands of possibilities. Then there is bad timing or luck. Believe me, any computer tech will tell you of multiple problems that screwed them up because they were looking at one problem based on the owners description of the problem.

My point? We test everything, we ran this and uninstalled it with no issues. No one else has complained. Every file on this site has 1 person who will swear its infected or screwed up their PC. I can not duplicate your problem, let me know if any issues return on the clean install.

Folder shows TuxGuitar was completely removed, rare nowadays to not leave files behind after an uninstall.

Spyware scan is clean (Note it found a flase positive with Asterisk Key, lol!)

Finally, a few registry keys leftover. Not uncommon after removing files or programs.

Hope this clears it up for you, you have, or had another issue and installing TuxGuitar was simply bad timing that made it appear to be your problem. I am having no problems here at all on my daily computer that runs 16 hours a day, does all the Majorgeeks software testing and has not been recovered since April 2008 meaning I have run and removed about 200 programs on here.

I am trully amazed my system is still mostly crippled and the uninstall of this application was definatively the catalyst. I dont know how this file association occured but it definately did, and after it was gone everything has gone haywire, from FF, AVG, Spywareguard etc etc I am at a complete loss. I have uninstalled several other applications using YourUninstaller without any issues???? Hoping that they were just corrupted but AVG just will not populate.

Thanks for taking the time to have a good look Tim. I wont be doing a clean install just a "repair install" to hopefully replace a lot of the xxx.dll's that were riped out within Windows and get some functionality again.

I am sorry, I almost wish we WERE at fault so at least you would know. I try to re-test anything when someone complains, but a competent geek like yourself with 1400 posts really scared me into thinking I missed something. I can not find any problems! I hope you find a problem that explains what happened, but as you know, we may never get that answer. I also Googled it with no results regarding issues with 1.0 final. Anytime we can help, you know where to find us!

Wow I am flattered, I am now concerned of either a HDD (2x250Gb in RAID0....ouch) or faltering RAM causing some form of DATA transrciption error?!? Have checked my HDD coarsely but will have to be a bit more thorough and them onto the RAM. But I trully know what I saw, watching it for 10mins ripping my system out, and cant believe it happened. Thankfully I've a good sleep now and can approach it with a clear head. Just hoping it doesn't mean the vast majority of apps having to come off and then back on again, thankfully all DATA is intact (I believe).

    Haha! Misery loves company.

I've done the same with another application. I too, run a 64-bit operating system, and have had a very similar issue with Sygate Personal Firewall. It destroyed EVERYTHING on my system, but I've never had an issue with it on x86 machines.

I've learned that apps that require driver level activity are DANGER, DANGER, DANGER on an x64 system when they don't explicitly support x64.

After my epic failure with Sygate, I tried another x86 app, Acronis, and it was grief, too. Fortunately, I was a better prepared this time.

Not sure whether this is meaningful in the context of TuxGuitar, but I would try it on x86 before condemning it entirely.

Well I have just spent the last 5-6 hours rebuilding Windows, DL 500Mb of updates (ouch only have 512/128 so has taken for ever) and then uninstalling and reinstalling most of my apps, drivers etc etc. I am finally achieveing a level of functionality again and if it wasn't for:

    Langa Letter: XP's No-Reformat, Nondestructive Total-Rebuild Option

I think I may have gone insane, but thankfully I have gotten the vast majority of personal pics, videos etc etc back in one piece. The worst part is I have had all of my games corrupted and lost all save files from Oblivion, WoW needs a complete rebuild (but have stopped playing that now anyway).

I really appreciate you taking the time out to assess the app Major Attitude and it looks like a fine tool, I could really use something like that but I am to timid of it now. I did explore every avenue as to why it happened and I think you are right inferring it could be a combination of factors but I can't isolate exactly what. Well I am getting back up to speed and now have a better AV as AVG just would not populate?!? Now I have NOD32 64, used to be my favorite AV so at least something good has come from this! Buying some blank DVD's tommorow and backing up.

Thanks for the input all and sorry if some of my posts are a bit crazy above but I was going stir-crazy thinking I was about to lose everything, thankfully it has just been time and the important stuff has been preserved.

I cant find a decent firewall yet Mada for 64 but thankfully I'm behind a router and thus just use the windows one.

Yeh, took me awhile too, but I lucked out and found that my motherboard bundled one that I love. LOL Right under my nose the whole time. I wouldn't bother to run one at all if I trusted the other computers on the same router.

Again, not sure if this will help, but I'll put it out there. I managed to preserve all my data files, including game data, by partitioning my hard drive, and moving the My Documents folder to the non-system partition. Most modern games put their data files in this folder, so I didn't lose anything! You've probably already done something like this, or if you haven't, it's too late to now, but I find it really makes data storage MUCH easier.

Spyware Terminator just warned me that Tuxguitar is a trojan. It is not installed. The warning was for the installer program "tuxguitar-0.9.1-update1-windows-installer.exe". Should I be worried? A scan by AVG finds no problem.
