While trying to solve a problem with OL 2003, I went to a help site that turned out to be one of those where the Back button doesn't work. Worse, I was far enough in, that the site tried to force me to click OK to one of a choice of fee options to have "expert" help.

The expert may well have been worth the $18 they were trying to extract for a single question, but I object on principle to this kind of Internet strong-arming.

After trying the usual methods of escape repeatedly, I'll admit I was starting to get a little panicky. I even shut down Firefox, but when I restarted, the %$#@ site was still on a tab and in control.

Finally, I had to go to the Task Manager and killl the specific app several times, then restart, before it let go of me.

If I were you, I would never ever visit this site, unless your goal is to bring it down: Microsoft.JustAnswer.com/Outlook

Nothing to do with Microsoft at all but it's not nice if they're that 'sticky'. It's justanswer.com

    Hi

I agree with Augie in that "JustAnswers" is nothing to do with Microsoft (need to email a contact to see if MSFT legal can do something about that sites practice of coming off as a Microsoft entity, as your not the only on of late to mention this).

Have you managed to resolve your Outlook 2003 issue at all? if not please give us the information and issue, with info like what Windows version and Service Pack, what error messages do you get, to can you recreate the error again an again, if so post the steps to getting the eror/issue.

I didn't necessarily think the site was run by Microsoft, but I wish MS could do something about it. Plenty of people are already not fond of MS, so this isn't helping their image, and I think the practices of this site should be banned. I am quite sure it has trapped many a net-neo.

I did get my email problem resolved. The steps for the fix are in this post: It was a few simple things that needed to be done together.

Now, however, I'm having fits with my LINKSYS WRT54G router. We have a mixed network. Our wired PCs are connecting to the ISP okay (after quite a bit of fiddling, including a visit to 192), but my laptop cannot even "see" our network. Apparently, our ISP made some changes to their config that messed us up.

I am home recovering from a depressive episode and my partner is home getting a steroid IV for an MS attack. Yes, really. We sure don't need all this PC trouble! :cry

Should I take this on over to networking? I'm afraid no one will answer on a connectivity issue -- posts about that seem to be ignored.

Please help me if you are able to do so.

    Many Thanks,

    Laurel

Okay. I went to 192.168.1.1 and found that the SSID had defaulted to the generic instead of my SSID. When I changed that, I found I could again "see" the network, but it was listed as having WPA security (whereas I have WEP). I changed this on the 192, where I found the router had defaulted to WPA.

Okay, so now the network is showing up as simply being secured, but its also showing a "manual" status in the upper right-hand corner, and it won't connect. It just trys for a long time with the message "waiting for network."

I'm afraid I'm making things worse and would be grateful for some guidance.
