washed up graphics

i have just had someone reinstall windows xp for me, (they were supposed to be cleaning a trojan, but gave me a wiped /reinstalled computer instead) now I cannot get the graphics right on my display. It is an older machine that has a gforcefx 5200 g/card and I checked and installed the forceware driver with the latest i could find from nvidia (6.14.11.7516) and installed direct x 9 from MS, have gone endlessly through settings on display menu and nvidia control centre, and windows and monitor but... when looking at the screen, it looks blocky and magnified. as though it has zoomed in alittle, and it does appear larger(text, bars etc) as well as ghosted and blurred, text on your site is very hard to read with green background. is there any suggestions as to what i could try or what may have been done wrong.I have tried clear type/ true type. It is hard to explain and i apolagise but it looks a little like it's running generic drivers but it's not.
all software is genuine
