Why do people spend 5 days a week transfixed on the other 2? Why do people spend 2 days a week numbing out the other 5? Why do people waste away their lives doing so? Why are they content with this?

I'm not referring to drugs or alcohol, necessarily.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I am not. I look forward to Monday, because that is gym night. I look forward to Tuesday next week because I have an appointment with a trainer at that gym. The NBA play-offs are coming up, and my team is doing great, which promises lots of evenings to look forward to as well.

I look forward to the weekend because on those two mornings I can sleep in, but I think I would go insane if I didn't take the time to appreciate the days in between my weekends. Then again, I do have pleasant things happen to me during my work days, and in the evenings that follow them. If I didn't , the weekends would be an oasis in a desert of misery, and I guess that is why.

The solution to the problem you describe might just be to switch to a more fulfilling and satisfying job?

I love my job and there is not a day that I'm not thinking how lucky I am to have such a fun and rewarding place to go to every day.

Of course I look forward to my weekends. That it is fun and rewarding doesn't mean I laze around during the days, come weekend, I'm tired and need a rest. And I deserve it as well! :D

I also look forward to Mondays. It's when my kids go back to school and my husband goes back to work and my world and house are sane again. :D

PS...I do have fun on the weekends though. heh

To a lot of people, the grass is always greener at some other time/place. I used to be like that - either disappointed and disillusioned at what I've missed out on, or longing for things that may never happen. Until I realized that each day is as good as it gets, or as good as we let it be. So each and every day is a good day, because...I'M ALIVE!! Even when it sure doesn't seem that way at times.

Meh, it'll all be over and I'll be pushing up Daisies soon enough. The months, years and decades soon pass by. When one gets older, and has a few close calls, one realizes that.

Yup, it's mainly about work gimp as the others have said. I was lucky also to have a great job in a fast moving company. It was a pleasure to go to work, 6 stop signs and 40 miles later, I was there.

Today, since I can't work anymore, one day is pretty much the same as an another, I wake up, gripe about the new snow and get on with it. I'd rather work, doing something at least, but that's fate.
