Hello everyone. I'm trying to get a Bugs Bunny -letter- wav sound to work in Thunderbird. Using lubuntu 14.4 right now and when I left clicked on the wav sound it would work, so I saved it. Had Thunderbird use it when there was new mail. Would not work then. Have the Gnome player for sound. Before I tried to use the wav sound the new mail sound was a pop sound. Am trying to find a way for the Bugs wav to work. Did a little research on it and one site said to use -libcanberra- . So I installed all of them (13) I believe. No help there. Am trying a few Linuxs' OS, to find one that works for me. Was having trouble finding a way to have my desk top change wallpaper when ever I would log on. Not one of the OS 's would work, so gave up on that. Will I have to give up on trying to get a wav sound to work? Any help ? THANKS.

LXLE has a "Random Wallpaper" changer that changes wallpapers every time you log in. There is also a script that you can adjust the settings to change the wallpaper to whatever interval you like; as well as an icon you can click to manually change wallpapers in a random fashion.

I don't know I can help much with Thunderbird sounds. I use Thunderbird, but I've never tinkered with the default sounds. What steps are you taking to try to enact the BugsBunny.wav?

Thanks Hedon for getting back with some help. Checked your info on LXLE, and that's to big to put on a CD. Can only use CDs' on the old computer. Beside, I did give up on trying to get that part to work for me. What I would like now is have a email notifier tell me with a wav sound that I have mail. The pop-up works fine with Thunderbird. Have tried Evolution mail and still can not get the sound to work. When I click on the button in the menu for sound, it tells me I have Gnome installed. When I found the wav sound that I wanted, and left clicked it ,I did hear the sound, so I know I have sound from the computer/Lubuntu. When I play my game of Solitaire I hear the music playing. I am also using Firefoxs' simple mail, and that wav does not work with that program either. So again I'm getting to the point of forgetting about the email notifier. and just be happy that I now can still use this 11 year old computer. Tried a bunch of OSs' and those two things I can not get to work. So ,Thanks again for your other time to help me and this time also. One more question. When you update thru software manager does that give you the next OS. I have Lubuntu 14.04 now . I read somewhere 14.04.1 will be out soon. will I get that or do I have to burn another ISO?

You are correct, LXLE is WAY too large for a CD. My bad... I think I remember having a similar discussion with someone on MG. Can't remember if it was you though...

FWIW, LXLE is based on Lubuntu, and the Random Wallpaper changer in LXLE is indeed a script. You can easily create this function on your Lubuntu desktop. Follow this link, pay special attention to the post by Zaka, near the bottom:

    http://lxle.net/forum/#/discussion/22/how-to-install-random-wallpaper-applet/p1

Regarding Lubuntu updating, if you have not manually changed the settings, Lubuntu will prompt you to update to 14.04.1 (it won't say "14.04.1", but it will offer packages that are part of that version). To verify, open Software Updater and click "settings" button in bottom left corner. This will open a "software sources" window; click the "updates" tab. Verify you are checking for updates (at interval you specify) and that "Notify of new Ubuntu version" is NOT set to "never". "All versions" will notify of EVERY new version, while LTS only notifies of LTS. I personally recommend LTS only.

Your e-mail question is confusing as heck. Thunderbird has it's own preferred default settings; Evolution has its own settings; Firefox has its own settings; and Lubuntu has its own default SYSTEM settings. I'm still unclear what you're doing. You wrote:

I think you want THUNDERBIRD to notify you on screen (OSD-"on screen display) AND play a sound? But TBird only notifies OSD, no sound? Is that correct? Are you just tinkering with Firefox and Evolution because you can't get TBird to do what you want? Or are you trying to get all 3 to do the same thing? And why so many apps for the same function?

    And you also wrote:

What button? What menu? What program? Also, your reference to Gnome is confusing, as Lubuntu has an LXDE desktop. Have you installed Gnome desktop in Lubuntu? Please clarify, and I'll do my best to help sort your out, if I am able...

Well, what can I say! Got half of what I was trying to do with my email. Get notified that I have mail. Was looking thru the software packages' and there was this "Mail Notification in the system tray." Even tho it has a play sound box which I have clicked to play my Bugs wav sound, it too will not play the wav, BUT here is why I don't have to look any more for something that works for me. This has in its' name a system tray notification. Well it's a small icon of a letter with a red flag that pops up and tells me I have mail with the number of mails I have. Here's the thing that made me smile, It will STAY on the system tray until I click on the "consider new mail as read". So Hedon James, Thanks again for your help. I'm sure I'll be back with something else (ha) to ask about Linux. Thanks also for telling me about the update thing. Have it set for what you had said in your post. Have a good wekend. :) Now I can leave this computer and go out and do some hiking (walk) on some trails here in Florida.

Glad you got it sorted out. Sorry I wasn't more helpful. One of the best things about Linux, IMO, is there are several ways to do something. One of the most confusing things about Linux, is there are several ways to do something. :) It's all good!
