See if you can run checkdisk on the drive in question. Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt, type:
chkdsk f:/r , hit enter on keyboard. f being the letter of the drive you want Windows to check. Checkdisk should run if the drive is not in use by the system, if it is in use you will need to type a y and hit enter, then reboot. If the drive was not properly removed or suffered a power loss during operation, files may be corrupted and this is a possible fix. A Linux live cd may also be worth considering, to see if the drive will mount, and if the files on the drive are accessible.

some of these WD drives have both USB2 and firewire interfaces, if this is the case maybe disabling the firewire interface in device manager, or try connecting with a fire wire cable if available. its worth a try

    Hi

    What Windows version you using?

When you try to access the driver via My Computer do you get any error messages?

Is the drive recognised in Disk Management? (Control Panel > Admin tools > Computer management) if it is then see if right clicking the drive and choose Change Drive Letter and Path to a letter like Z

If not then open Device Manager and then open the USB Serial Bus Controller branch, unplug any other USB Storage devices and just have this one plugged in and in the list you should see Mass Storage Device, right click it and uninstall, then unplug the Drive adn then plug back in and the driver shoudl re-load.
