    Hi geeks,
I'm running Windows 10 with 12GB ram. I have a number of external hard drives all by Western Digital that I use for storage only. Under these conditions do I even need to install the software that comes with the hard drive? Copy and Paste functions work fine without it, but I don't want to leave myself without full use even though I don't know what that could be right now.

I have in teh past used these for backup of the computer hard drive but not the WD backup software.

I have 6 external WD hard drives of various sizes and ages. I have never used WD software. On all but one of the hard drives, I was able to remove the extra and in my case unwanted items.
I don't run Win 10 but the hard drives have been used in ME, 2K, XP and 7 systems.

I agree with plodr - you don't need any special software with W10 or any other OS. The fact you can copy and paste proves that.
