I have a WD2500BEVT-22A23TO (250GB) HDD in my ACER which has 136 Reallocated Sectors out of the initial 200 (140 being the trigger point for notification). There are no other errors being anywhere near failure points as shown on CrystalDiskInfo 5.3.1.

I plan to Clone a new, in the box, WD2500BEVT next week using the Acronis True Image WD Edition, without copying the "bad Sectors" following the advice from the Acronis Help File.

Now, my question is thus: Since the problem Sectors are due to corrupted Windows OS files (failure of System Restore, et al), should/could I re-format the Original HDD and use it for backup? Seems to me that this would be possible and economically feasable. Am I barking up the wrong tree, here, or am I overly optimistic in my ignorance?

Thanks in advance for your advice and possible consent.

I wouldn't rely on a drive with issues as a back up drive. You could, but its a gamble at that.
