I replaced an 80gig Seagate SATA HDD with a Western Digital Cavair 16mb cache 400gig SATA HDD. For some reason my bios doesn't recognize the HDD? The HDD does spin-up and it appears to be running normally. I checked and rechecked the cables and I just can't figure it out. Can anyone help me resolve this issue or know of a fix?

    Thanks

Plug it into a different port?

Check your motherboards manufacturers web site for a possible BIOS update. Or try a PCI SATA controller (Promise FastTrak for example)... The PCI cards run about $40-$50 for two port SATA2....

Be sure there are no jumpers on the pins. ed

In your bios, is it showing none, or the old one. ed

Your 400g capacity is too great for your mobo's BIOS to recognize!

Agree with hopperdave, Flash the CMOS with a BIOS update, but make sure your comfortable in attempting this....any setbacks during this process can be disastrous!

    Regards....

I flashed the bios to the latest version. This in turn rendered my PCI ATI vid card not working because now I get a CODE 12 on it saying that there isn't enough resources to enable the card. :(

I already have another 400gig HDD in my computer that works no problem.

    I tried a new cable......and a new SATA slot.

Now I have two issues. :(

Your new BIOS is set to the default settings (probably AGP)
You need to change your video card settings to PCI, in the BIOS!

You never mentioned anything about a 400g already working in your system!
Troubleshooting computers is a tough business, every detail of information is important.

I have an eVGA NF-41 SLI mobo. The bios is set to PCI-E for my 2 vid cards in SLI and my third vid card, my ATI PCI 9250 card runs my second monitor. It used to work with no issues until I updated my bios.....now all ofa sudden I dont have enough resources? :(
