its true, we've had 7 weeks of rain and now a week of sunshine

 

at least you did not go through a hurricane(frances) ...and IVAN ---CAT5 Storm on the way now !!!! Glenn

Damn Kodo, that was funny in a painful way. It rains a lot here in Manchester, must be why the Chinese call it 'The Rainy City'

Jeeeezz... Hurricaine season is pretty active this year. Sucks to be in florida

 

LOL think so,,,actually Frances missed them,,hit us,,,this one is comming north,,will hit all of us !!!

 

Still far enough out that it may miss... we hope!

england had a hurricane once. fortunately it hit at 3am, but it devastated the south east. the night before the weather man said categorically 'there will be no hurricane, and all reports to the contrary are false'. i reckon they just wanted to avoid mass panic, as evacuating the south east is not possible. i actually slept through it! woke up to find myself in a 'war zone'. lost my bathroom roof, both of my garden fences, and the front and back windscreen of my car. took down six of the seven oaks in 'sevenoaks'. flattened a pine preservation forest, (called the pine forest - very imaginative, English names. lol) did untold damage. after it was over the weather man shrugged and said 'oops sorry, cant get it right all the time.' this is only funny if you live in england....the weather man NEVER gets it right. no disaster relief, insurance doesn't cover 'acts of God'. we all got totally screwed! aloha.

 

And that year, I was born!!

 

if i recall it correctly it was october 1987 or there about

 

man i never heard about that until today. that really sucks.

i didn't realize it was so long ago!!! god I'm getting old!! mind you I've been here for nine years and Hawaiian time is elastic. a day seems like a week, a week seems like a month, and a year seems like a week!! they KNEW that storm was coming. all sorts of 'armature' weather watchers rang in and told them. but as i said, as evacuation isn't really plausible, i don't suppose there was anything they could say or do to limit the damage. fortunately as stated, it came in the wee hours, and almost everyone was asleep. if it had hit at PM instead, i think there would have been mass casualties. glad it doesn't happen too often!! anyway just my way of saying i feel for you guys in Florida. well done with the link nickson. i am always surprised when you lot manage to find info on almost any subject thats posted. aloha. PS Hawaii, for all its balmy beauty, is the only place in the world where we get all four of the natural disasters. hurricanes, tidal waves, volcanoes, and earthquakes. this is not really an accurate picture though as hurricanes tend to spin away from this island because of the warm air streams above the volcano, the volcano itself is constantly flowing so it doesn't really explode as such, and the earthquakes are not caused by the shift in Teutonic plates, but by the lava 'bubbling' under the island.
