I'm using Fire Fox with Windows Vista and started having this problem a couple of days ago. When I bring up my laptop, everything appears to be nominal. However, after some time, Fire Fox stops trying to connect to any web site. It will remain in a busy state regardless how long I let it sit there. It does this on different websites, not peculiar to a just one. Other programs on my laptop can access other web sites, so I don't think it is a connectivity issue. When I kill the browser and try to bring it up again, it states the process is already running. Task Manager shows the process running and when I try to kill it (as Owner/Administrator) it will not die. When I try rebooting the laptop, it takes about 3-5 minutes before it does; I can only guess it is trying to kill off the Fire Fox process before rebooting.

The only thing different that I have done with my laptop over the last week is to install Zone Alarm and deinstall Comodo firewall. I have AVAST anti virus, CC Cleaner, Ad-Ware, Spybot, Super Anti Spyware and ran all of these programs to make sure there isn't anything on my laptop that could be causing this.

I tried restoring the registry to a point earlier in time, but I found there are currently only three restore points, none earlier than the Zone Alarm install.

Hi. Security programs such as Comodo's FW for instance often leave remnants after uninstalling them. Please run the Comodo removal tool which you get at this link. https://forums.comodo.com/install_s...ol_for_comodo_internet_security-t36499.0.html Reboot after using the tool. Use CCleaner and it's registry.

The above is to rule out that Comodo remnants are causing FF's behavior. You did not say if IE is demonstrating similar behavior or not.

If the above doesn't fix the problem, there is a link from Firefox that you may need to use to diagnose and hopefully correct the problem.

    Good luck!!

Thanks guys for the quick response.

It appears that after I ran the batch job for Comodo that everything is working nominally again. I'll keep an eye one it and if it does reoccur, I'll uninstall Zone Alarm.

    Thanks again, appreciate your help.

Glad the Comodo removal tool seems to have worked for you at this time. Perhaps you may want to do a search on your machine to see if there are any Comodo, CPF or any related (empty) folder(s) still shown and if so, they should be removed manually as well.

In case you need a 64 bit free firewall. Free Outpost Firewall is 64 bit compatible. http://www.majorgeeks.com/Outpost_Firewall_Free_d1056.html There aren't that many available.

This FW did get excellent ratings at Matousec.
