Hello there! I have been having this strange error where my browsers will lock up after a random amount of time.

I just ran the READ ME FIRST guide; and I got through all of the of the steps except the ComboFix one without a hitch...

The ComboFix tool went EXTREMELY slowly and I had to leave it on after I went to bed. So it to took an undetermined amount of time but it was 1hr+; and even after it did finish I couldn't log onto the internet so I was forced to system restore to a point before it ran... but that could be my own fault for forgetting to re-enable something.

So more in depth about whats happening...

I used Firefox as my main web browsers; but I also have IE7 and Maxthon2 installed incase I need them for some reason. Just recently (withing the last month) I have been experiencing complete lock up of my browsers at random intervals. I can close the program; but it will remain in the task manager if I attempt to "End Process" or "End Process Tree" the same thing happens for the other two browsers I mentioned.

I hope someone can help me with this!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Since all of your logs are clean, I suspect that your problems are not due to malware but rather due to some new software that you installed or got updates for.

I suggest you start by uninstalling ZoneAlarm and see if that changes anything.
Also check to see what browser addons you have installed and see if disabling them changes anything.
Also one final test would be to see if the problem occurs when you boot in safe mode.

It did appear that ComboFix mistakenly removed some files for ZoneAlarm which is why you may have lost your ability to connect to the internet. Since you did a Restore, it does not matter now.

I'm going to move this thread to the Software Forum where you can continue to work this problem.

You should also do the below to cleanup from running the READ & RUN ME.

Now we need to cleanup some items from running ComboFix.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significan amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix.
    3. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
