Web Cake

Hello. This is Jas.

I found a program called WebCake on my mom's Acer Aspire 5050 (Win7hp) today. (I uninstalled it. All is OK, I think)

Is there a program that will force this computer to generate a custom window every time a new program wants to install itself? , One that will place the new install on the side until I am back on the computer, where I can access this window and tell the computer whether or not to install said 'new program'? (I'm tired of strange programs installing themselves whenever my mom surfs to sites that try to take advantage of this computer)

I'm basically looking for a program that will warn me or at least add an extra step of asking permission (and leaving a log) any time a remote service or site wants to change anything on this computer.

WinPatrol sounds like the one for you. Someone else might have a better option, but the Pro version is only a one time $29.99 for a lifetime license. It does what you mentioned and some other good things too...

Win 7 tries to protect you with User Account Control. As long as it hasn't been turned off it will pop up and ask for confirmation that you want to continue with any new installs (and anything else that will change system files). You could tell your mom that if the UAC warning pops up she has the option to decline and talk to you about it first. And it's free of course There is a free version of WinPatrol that may be satisfactory too.

 

Sounds good. I cant remember, I probably did set Uac to off (or maybe a low setting).

PS Does anybody know what these 'plane-trails' are about? IDK, I lived in Hawaii for 17 years and came back home here in Savannah, Ga and now the sky is literally littered with these criss-cross plane-trails. Are ya'll getting them in the UK? (My preliminary search showed the Cfr and cloud-seeding)
