Web Design Question

Thanks to everyone that answered my previous post the ideas for message boards was helpful. Now I am looking to do something a little more in depth. It all has to do with people fill out a form and it then posts based on the answers on certain web pages. For example if it is an arts web site, people would fill out the form and check drawing and water colors. Both are checked and then there name and information are added to a web page for people who draw and people who do water colors. That way people can go and see where people have skills and check what skills people have. If any one has an idea how to set this up please give me any sort of support I can really use some help on this not sure where to begin. Thanks.

can't help you with CGI coding but the basics of this are.

Create a database that has a Members table and another table (we'll call it MemberCats) that references the Members Table.MembersID (unique record for each member).

Create a form that contains the desired selections (categories) that members can choose from. This form will update the database based the particular Member that filled out the form. The form will insert (if non-existing record ) or update (if existing record) the members desired list of categories in the database.

Then you build a page for to show this information.

That's the general concept of it. The actual implementation of it is more sophisticated than that but is a VERY common feature as you can plainly see all over the net.

If you've never programmed, then this can look daunting. Maybe it's time to dive in and I would recommend ditching CGI in lieu of PHP, ASP or ASP.NET. and get comfy with relational databases
