Web development

Hi

While I've been making great progress learning about hardware and some software, I've fallen way behind on web development and am going to get back into it. I will be doing a fair amount of Googling, etc. but I need a place to start.

Back in the day, when I was building websites (mostly for fun), the extent of it was HTML, JavaScript, and PHP. I never delved into JS and PHP much... only enough to do a few simple things. ASP and CSS were new... I learned some CSS. Anyway, this was several years ago.

Long story short, I am creating a new business website and basically need to know what I need to know in order to have it look not just good, but great, and be functional with thinks like a Facebook Like button, a Google search function for the site, etc.

I am able to use Dreamweaver for the project, but I don't even know what is the best option for starting with it! It has "Create New" and then lists HTML, Cold Fusion, PHP, ASP VBScript, XSLT, CSS, JavaScript, and XML.

I do know that simple HTML would be way too much work for everything I want to incorporate into the site. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Using CSS is generally a very good way to go. I'm not familiar with Dreamweaver but I think you would most likely start with either HTML or PHP as the basic coding choice for your web pages and then use the other capabilities of Dreamweaver in connection with certain components or elements of pages in your site.
