so heres the deal... someone i know is over addicted to meaningless and lame games like darkorbit (to the point where he spends 8 hours+ a day on the things). i'm looking for a way to block this specific game, and a few others.

in the past i've tried K9 web protection, but i was wondering if there is anything better/other out there, so i can get some use out of the pc as well.

If you have access to the router you can block the ports & in some routers the website too.

I'd use OpenDNS, it can be set per computer or on a router to control all machines connected.

I'm hoping this won't adversely affect any relationships ;)

well it unfortunately didn't live up to my expectations, not even 10 minutes in and he was back on the games :( his comment to me: 'fail' and this is after i've set the blocking level to moderate, and blacklisted the url :confused i even made sure it was spefically stopping games :(

Hmm, I'm assuming it was setup correctly in the DNS settings on the PC, evil Sis ^^. Might be a tricky one, DarkOrbit is a browser-based Flash game :(

62.146.187.17 appears to be the DO gameserver, you could try blocking that with OpenDNS.

You could try blocking ports 22222 (DO chat window), 843 and 9338 (one of the game screens), also 1935 (may block some Flash traffic) with whichever firewall you have installed, it may not stop him playing but it might get him off the PC if the game is 'buggy'.

score!!! didn't even need to do this :-D i watched him this morning as he tried to get on his game. turns out he'd been logging into my area and going through my emails til he found the password so he could reset the blocker. password changed, emails deleted... bring it on!!

:cool but it still feels quite naughty for you to be doing this ;)

He'll not give up without a fight, more than one way to skin a cat and all that ^^
