If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.....

    here is my problem...

I'm using Internet Explorer 6 for a browser but certain web sites are not able to be displayed. For example, I can't access ESPN.com. I used to be able to access ESPN.Go.com with just text being displayed w/o pictures, but now I can't even access that.

I have tried to check my security setting within IE and to my knowledge everything checks out. Its a very small number of sites that I can't access.

I am using a cable connection if that makes a difference at all.

Once again thanks to anyone that can give assistance.

make sure that you don't have any restricted sites in the restricted sites list in the options menu. Also make sure that you have updates for internet explorer as well.

i checked the restricted sites in options and everything is ok there. I downloaded the latest updates from IE,installed, and rebooted but still experiencing the same problem.

I just tried using FireFox and it does not help me with accessing espn.com or mlb.com (the 2 main sites I am having problems with). However, Firefox is a real nice looking program which I may use if I can get this browser problem straightened out...

    Any other suggestions guys?

login sites are not a problem at all.

im not sure if espn.com and mlb.com are secure or not to tell you the truth....

possibly someone else may know if they are secure?

Not sure but this might help

Quit Internet Explorer (if it is running).
Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
    Click the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Security section.
Clear the Use PCT 1.0 selection.
Clear the Use TLS 1.0 selection.
    Click OK.

Some sites are not compatible with this options

yea i thought that may be the problem as well but it was to no avail.

this has been frustrasting me for the longest time and finally i gave in and had to ask for help....

is there any more information i can provide that could possibly lead to the answer?

    rahs,

Are you getting any kind of error message, and before when you only were getting text on the pages did you notice any banners or ads not loading right.

I found a fix, dealing with the HOST files, but not sure you were experiencing any of the problems I listed above. Here is a portion of the article followed by the fix, you and the other geeks can read and see if it makes sense before you try it.

Basically, what has happened is that a program or person has changed
the file to prevent certain domains from loading up. This is usually
done by redirecting traffic from this domains to 127.0.0.1 (which is
your own computer). Your browser tries to load up the page from a
server on your computer, which of course does not exist, so you get an
    error message.

1.) Hold down the Windows key and press the F key. (or open up your
search through Start -> Find -> Files and Folders, or Start ->
    Search).

2.) For File name, type in: HOSTS

    3.) Search your C drive.

4.) Delete or rename all files that are called HOSTS (they should
appear as capital letters) You could rename them to HOSTS.old, but
just deleting it will be perfectly safe as well. This file will be in
    your \Windows folder somewhere, sometimes

5.) Your problem should be solved but you may need to restart.

Endi- Im a newbie if you cant tell...im not sure how to post a picture of the running process :(

Matacumbie - I took your advice, I did have a HOST file, deleted it, rebooted and it did fix the problem SORT OF. For example, now espn.go.com will load but with alot of pictures missing. espn.com will not load at all still.

    and...

Kaula - I also changed the cookie options like you said.

Guys I appreciate everything but I'm so frustrated over here...

I'm not sure how to post the picture but this is the page that comes up when i try to access the web sites.......

    The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft Windows can examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings.
If you would like Windows to try and discover them,
    click Detect Network Settings
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

I should have included this earlier, the HOST file could also be in lower case letters. Did you just have one? Steve

  16. rahs

    rahs Private E-2

    yes i actually had 3....

this is how they appeared and the location of the files

    HOSTS - windows\I386
    Hosts - program files\spybot\includes
    hosts - system32\drivers\etc

ok i also changed the other file to hosts.old, but now neither espn.go.com will load or espn.com

i read the article you linked, and i really think its a server problem. its not such a problem with the ads on websites.

let me know what you think....plus...again all the help is great regardless whether or not i get this fixed :)

also i should note that when i use firefox to navigate espn.com will not even load, and i dont even get an error message.

    Matacumbie Rocky Top

Well, I want you to get it fixed also. I was more concerned with the not being able to access certain websites.

Have you tried the "Default setting" in Security and Privacy settings? Restart

I will keep checking, very frustrating.

yes i did try that as well....

this may seem crazy, but like I said Im def a newbie to this......

is there a way to maybe start with a fresh version of internet explorer?

i downloaded all of their updates and everything and im just at a loss right now.

Someone here, with your assistance, will figure it out. I will be trying to find a solution. Steve

to post a screen shot read the following

    then upload the image here.

    OK here is another posibility

    try the following

Start / Run, type CMD and click ok.

In the black text window that appears: ipconfig /flushdns

Could either be yours or your ISP's DNS that's messing up.

  24. Endi

    Endi Lt. Links

If it's a problem with your IPs DNS resolving the name you'll be able to see by performing a DNS lookup:

Start > Run > Type cmd to open a command prompt

    type 'nslookup'

type www.espn.go.com or any site you want

if it doesn't resolve then it's a problem their end.

    Hope this helps

Can you browse these sites by IP address?

    199.181.132.250

  26. rahs

    rahs Private E-2

    hey guys....

i cant browse the sites by IP address using the command prompt.

when i did the nslookup i got 199.181.132.244, 199.181.132.140 for espn.go.com. neither ip address worked for me. for espn.com i got 199.181.132.250 and that did not work either.

and to make matters worse, i tried to dowload the screen capturing program that just prints and i cant access the site http://www.irfanview.com/.

  27. Endi

    Endi Lt. Links

    Did you clear your dns

I would recommend that you call your isp it might be that the problem is at that end.
