Webcam problems

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on a Dell laptop 1545 and am having trouble using webcams on this system.

I first tried Logitech c525 with the Logitech Webcam Software lws251, but could not get the image - could get sound, but no image. the webcam appears in Device Manager and I have made sure the drivers are updated, but can not see image in LWS and also not cam is not visible in video calling applications - Skype -and also not visible in www.testmycam.com. I uninstalled and reinstalled LWS three times, still nothing. I tried the cam on another computer - another Dell laptop with Win 7, but could not install the drivers.

Thinking, I had a bad cam, I purchased a different cam, HP HD 5210. First installed the software from CD then plugged in the cam, but getting the same thing. Device Manager sees it, but the software says no camera plugged in. Again tried this camera on the other laptop, but couldn't install drivers. Tried this one on a desktop running Vista and was able to get it to work.

Must be something more than coincidence that neither cam would work on my main laptop. Any suggestions?

Hi

Random thought is run the installer software for the webcam as administrator on your Win 7 PC, and see if that works. right click the setup/install file and choose Run as Administrator.

Do make sure you have uninstalled any old Logitech webcam software also.

Try running in safe mode and see if the cam works in Skype for instance, as it could be a 3rd party application that's blocking the cam in normal boot.
