I'm buying webcams for my neice's 2002 dell laptop running xp, my father's 2008 gateway running vista and my brother's god knows what, i think running 98 (i have a call in to him to verify). i'm leaning to logitech for all since i've had good luck with their products. however, the product descriptions don't always tell with which os they are compatible. advice, suggestions, direction? thanks in advance.

You might have a major headache with windows 98. XP and Vista might simply be plug and play because the OS has drivers for lots of things. 98 is never plug and play. You always need to install a driver. If the camera is newly purchased, there is a very good chance that Logitech does not and will not supply a driver for an OS that has been unsupported since July 2006.

Your best shot for the 98 computer is a used webcam with an install disk that has the drivers for 98.

Research the model of the used camera to be sure it supports 98.
