Hi, i'm having a bit of a connection problem, its starting to get on my nerves so i was wonderinig if anyone could help me.

When using internet explorer, i sometimes get the error page "Internet explorer cannot display web page". I keep needing to refresh the webpage to get it to load properly. Sometimes it will only load up after numerous attempts of refreshing the page, and even then the page doesn't always load up properly - pictures won't load, or the font on the web page isn't how it is supposed to be.

This happens no matter what website i'm on, and sometimes it will happen 80% of the time, then other times it might not happen at all.

I have a wireless internet connection with a Belkin router, sharing the connection with 3 other computers, none of which experience this problem.

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks.

Hi, i have cleared my temp files every so often, have done recently and the problem is still there. Also, it is the router that is sharing the connection, not my system.

I dont think it is an internet explorer problem because there is limited connection with other internet-based programs.

    Thanks

Hi thanks for the reply. I managed to download Firefox, and while it does seem much better in general, every now and then the problem returns, for example, doing a google image search will only produce perhaps half the images.

How do I check for updates for IE?

Also, what i meant by "limited connectivity" was that it rarely connects to the network, or if it does, downloads wont download.

    Thanks.

Ive just updated - got sevice pack 3, and the latest version/updates for internet explorer.
However the problem still persists, no idea what to do.

Is this something that will require taking my computer to a shop for repairs?

Does the connection say limited or no connectivity, or does it just have a really weak signal and can't maintain the connection?

My guess would be that it's just matter of not having a good enough signal. There are several options you could consider to try and boost the connection strength.. You could get a better, longer range wireless router, you could try a wireless adapter with better reception, or you could try something like a range extender. Before you spend any money though...

Do you have Windows Firewall turned on? Do you have any other security software, especially those that have built in firewalls, like Norton or McAfee?

    Hi Unbanable,

The connection usually says connected, with signal strength varying from ususally good to excellent. It is true that the router is quite far away - up two flights of stairs (I live in a shared house with my room being in the basement). However, if i move my computer closer, the problem persists.
I have also tried to plug the LAN cable straight straight into my laptop, it wll not connect saying that the network address cannot be aquired, and then when i click on repair connection problems, it stays on renewing ip address for ages untill i end up cancelling the process.

I do have windows firewall turned on, and the securty systems i use are windows defender and avast!.

Well, you've definitely ruled out signal strength as the problem.

For diagnostic purposes, temperarily turn off Windows Firewall and see if the problem persists.

Also, lets check your network connection settings. Click start, then control panel, then go to network connections. Right click on your wireless connection and select properties. Next, in the scoll box, scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and select it, or just select it if there isn't enough in the list to cause it to scroll. Generally, Internet Protocol is the last in the list. Once it's highlighted, click properties. Make sure that you are obtaining your IP's automatically.

    Hiya,

I turned off windows firewall - seemed 2 be working ok but going online this morning and once again not all pictures would load up and neither would some webpages.

After checking, i am obtaining my IP's automatically.

    Thanks.

    Thanks.
