Is there a way to beat company website blocking? Websense tends to block competition websites and labels them as gambling sites which is crazy.

I have seen some crazy paranoid network admins too. And while there are methods of circumventing their authority, I would ask you at what cost you are willing to do so. I say this more in a respecting my fellow geek way, and less in a preaching way.

Recently, a computer talk radio host put it like this, which helped me understand the paranoid network admin perspective a little (a little!). It was something like "Companies are responsible for what goes on in their networks. They are liable for anything caused by their network."

So when they block websites like the gambling sites, it is because they have no trust at all in the people who run those sites. They don't want to expose their networks for no legitimate reason. It's like gambling, so to speak, and some network admins are stricter about it than others. It would be great to have a network admin who lets you go to gambilng sites, and almost has a bring-it-on attitude to unsavory types. In that way the network admin almost protects his/her company and allows them to freely surf the web. But that would be hard on the network admin, and depending on the company, it may not be possible. Most imprtant is the company does not lose money, or you and the rest of the staff will be looking for a new job.

Sorry if this came off as preachy. That's my two cents. Maybe somebody else will give you a step-by-step how to do it. But yes, it is possible. It's very possible. And possibly you can go undetected forever. That's a gamble though I don't recommend!

Its possible yes. Is any one here going to help you do it? Probably not since if you have to ask you dont know enough to get away with it. If its a legitimate need talk to your admin and ask him to open it.

Got your CV up-to-date? Network IT people block sites for valid (usually) company reasons. Trying to circumvent blocking is not a good idea. Bazza
