I've had this problem for about a month. When I try to go on the website gog.com, the page doesn't load at all or just load partially. This happens on both Firefox and Explorer. The problem is definitely my computer (I can access the website normally from other PCs).
I have run the malware removal procedure (logs in attachment).

Any help you can give me is very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance for the amazing work you're doing on your website!

I suggest that you post in the software forum for further assistance with this issue.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Hi,
Thank you for looking into this issue! I followed your suggestions, but the problem's still there... well, at least now I know it's not malware! I'll try moving the thread to the Software forum, as you suggested.

    Cheers

Have you checked the "hosts" file with notepad? I had no trouble accessing it. Just hit Start, type in "hosts"(without the quotes) and see if gog.com is in there.

    @augiedoggie

I used to be able to access that website no problem up until about a month ago. I'll try your suggestion as soon as I get back home, though.

    Thanks!

It could be some security program that you installed/ updated at that time. It's only a guess and one more thing to eliminate. Easy enough to check.

    Hi,
I can't find the "hosts" file you mentioned. When I hit Start and type "hosts"(without the quotes) all I can see is a file called HostSideAdapter.dll

    Any suggestions?

In XP, the hosts file is located at C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

Aah sorry, you have to unhide files and view hidden MS files. Click on folder icon/ organize/ folder and search options/ view. Click the unhide radio button and uncheck the hide MS files. I gave you both as I don't know which one does it. You can now see the hosts file.

Thanks for your help augiedoggie. This may sound like a stupid question, but, when you say "Click on folder icon" which folder are you referring to?

In Win7 in any Explorer window click Organize at the top left and then Folder and Search options under that menu. Then View tab and tick "Show Hidden Files" and untick "Hide Protected System Files"

Ok, I did as Sach2 suggested, but the situation hasn't changed. I still can't see the "hosts" file.
I assume this is not good...

I just had to edit my hosts file and I had a devil of a time finding it. Then Win7 wouldn't let me edit it. I just edited it in Linux because I have that available.

Maybe just take a quick look at the Hosts file which probably has no entries. If it does have a list of entries then we can worry about how to get to it.

Try Start then type cmd in the search box and hit enter. It will open a command window.

Copy and pate the following type C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

You'll have a line that looks like
    Code:
     # 127.0.0.1 local host
Do you have any entries after that and if you do then do any contain gog.com?

One quick thing to check is copy and paste this into your browser address bar and see if you get to gog.com.

Yes I get a line that looks exactly like the one you described, but no entries after that.

I tried, but I get the same result: the page starts loading but it never actually loads up.

A couple of things I forgot to mention (I don't know if this might help, but...)
    - When I try to connect to gog.com, the message in the bottom-left corner of the browser reads: connecting to static08.gog.com
Note that the number changes all the time (08, 06, 05, 10, etc.)
    - If I try to access one of the pages inside the website directly from google (looking up one of the games, for example, thus skipping the homepage), it often loads up correctly...

I cleaned the cache... still nothing!

I really don't know what is going on. That you get even partial loading would seem to indicate that you are connecting to the site. You just cleared your cache so that shouldn't be messing things up. It happens in two browsers.

Do you have any other computers connected to the same internet connection--do they get to the site?
I wonder if a portable version of a third browser would make any difference? I don't see why it would.

I'm not sure what to suggest. Anyone?

You might have to do it this way since something is blocking gog from loading.

Yes, I can access gog.com from my laptop on the same internet connection, no problem. This is very weird. What is also weird is that the only website that's giving me this problem is gog.com (at least, so far I haven't found any other website that does that)... and ONLY on my desktop PC?!?!
Thank you for your suggestions, everyone. I really appreciate it.

I have no solution as it does seem to be limited to that PC but I can't make sense of it.
Do you get there from a proxy (a bit slower) I'm just curious if the page fully loads. Just type gog.com in the box. http://www.freewebproxy.net/

    Hi Sach2,

Loading the website from the proxy you sent me worked! The page loads completely, although it's a bit slower than normal.

I realise this thread is nearly a year old, but I was having the exact same problem recently trying to connect to gog.com and to the witcher.com's updater for the enhanced edition.

Having uninstalled and reinstalled antivirus and firewall programs, having disabled and re-enabled DEP. Having checked my HOSTs file, reset my modem swore violently at the PC, watched in disbelief as my laptop connected to the same network happily connected to gog.com, I finally decided to uninstall and reinstall my ethernet driver.

    Success!

    Hi,
The ethernet driver, you say? That's actually a good idea and I don't know why I didn't do the same thing right away.
On a positive note, though, for me the problem just magically disappeared one day! I guess it must have been the result of a system update....

    Cheers!
