There are so many free web hosting sites out there - some bad, some great.
What are your personal favorites and which one(s) would you recommend?

It really depends on what exactly you want to do your knowledge and how much you want to pay for what you do not know.

First decision is whether you want Linux Box Hosting or Windows Hosting.

Second what level of support you need.

Most inexpensive Hosting service do not give any support but only would make it sure that the Hardware is working and the Server software is installed correctly.

One way to go about it is to use for a while Free Host until you feel secure enough to go into "deep water".
