My nephew is getting hitched in a couple of weeks and was wondering what would be a good gift.

I rarely get invited to weddings, maybe because they think I'll embarress them, but this is family they have to invite me. ;)

Anyways I'm ou tof touch with what a young couple may enjoy, so I would like to hear some ideas. Anybody have a favorite? Don't let me make the same mistake that someone did to you, oh and do tell the fow paws (I isn't french and my dictionary is packed away somewhere) of your wonderfull occasion.

Oh my, Love is in the air http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/liebe/love-smiley-087.gif

I find the easiest way out of this is

to ask them where they are registered and to see the list of things they have requested, and presto you can't go wrong:D

Face it everyone will give house gifts, so be different. Give them something for entertainment. Xbox would be a nice gift.

I've heard about this registry thing only in the last two weeks. Are all stores hooked in or is it just the big stores?

most of the time one store, and it cost big bucks...........me being an artist, I would get them some fine art, painting, some nice photos - large in scale, or some pottery............wobbles

It costs absolutely nothing to register, and absolutely nothing to print out the registry to see what they want. It is, however, at particular stores where they want things (common ones around here are Target, Meijer, Home Depot, and Lowe's). The price of the gift depends on what they want. Most people will register for some big stuff, some middle-range stuff, and some cheap stuff.

One idea I have used more than once is an ice cream maker, bowls, spoons, and some toppings. I've also gotten a blender, some margarita mix, and some tequila. Depending on the couple, I've also been known to get them a weekend stay at the local bed & breakfast (which is in this incredibly cool 1890s era house that's been restored).

Depot and Lowes have a bridal registry? That's a good one. Nothing like power tools to start off a marriage. Do they do one for father's day too?

Go to your local Bank and inquire about an American Express gift card for the amount you would like to spend. That way the are able to use on Honeymoon or after they get back.

Money. Money is always good. Can't go wrong with cash.

You know everyone's given some great ideas...but definately find out about their gift registries. That's the best way to go. Don't ask the bride & groom (you knew that, right?!), but ask a family member and see if they know.

If a registery doesn't exist, cash/gift certificates are always nice. If you don't want to give cash/gc, go buy something crystal. It's fairly cheap these days. Or you could always get the invitation and have it matted & framed. (Got tons of those on my wedding day.)

Uh...can you tell I assist in planning weddings for a living? :)

My personal thought is that if they register somewhere and don't tell people, they don't deserve to get anything. ;) I'm sure Emily Post might say differently, but I can't remember the last time I got a wedding invitation (or a baby shower invitation) that didn't have an enclosure as to where they were registered.

They live in the country and aren't real accostomed to city stuff. I don't know if they even have a telephone, much less a computer and internet access.

I'd like the gift to be memorable in some way. Either something that last well into their years or some crazy uncle stunt they can remember for years to come.
I'm sure cash is alway appreciated, If I can't find an appropriate item within the next week or so, cash it will be, but what dollar amount is appropriate?

Hey how bout matching MG t-shirts?

Get them a 10 inch table saw and router!

Or a gift certificate to Amazon.com (which works at many brick and mortars for picking up items).

GO FOR THE X BOX. Really, it's a good gift. As long as they are playing with each other, they will get along. :)

Take it from someone that has been married a few times.....the X BOX! If someone had have given my first husband and I one when we got married, we would never have divorce.

it don't cost anything to register, because the store will be getting all the money. I hasn't thought about target or Lowe's.

My experience has been with Macy's, and other of the more expensive stores.

and since I've never been married, and don't know, and don't care............wobbles

If it were my niece getting married, I would probably get her a shotgun.

I have never heard anyone complain about getting to many tablesaws, or power tools for that matter, might be interesting.

    Anybody seen any cool toasters?

Lots of good ideas, keep them coming,
    Thanks

probably goes for the star registry too, huh

On the gift ideas, I am trying to stay away from something too practical. Something that they might never buy for themselves but may enjoy for awhile. The stranger the better. maybe matching banjos or something like that. Prefer to stay around 100 bucks And also something that doesn't require feeding or watering,

I remember a male chauvinistic (sp?) workmate of mine bought his "missus" a lawnmower for Christmas. Took it into the house on Christmas Day,:D started it up, :) chewed up the carpet.:p Careful on the powertools ideas. Bazza

Now a lawnmower, that's something I could do. Fits nicely in a big box, the biggest box wins right?

I don't think that they will get too many lawnmowers. Besides, how many is too many?

I found that one of the cheapest and best gifts to give is a Powerball (Lottery Ticket) with special numbers on it (B-days, ANIVERSARY etc...)

A full 52 weeks worth, that way they have something to look forward to every week or twice a week if you want to be nice. The numbers mean something to them, plus if they win, I am sure they will give you a cut!!! ;)

Like the1God's idea.:) A lot easier to transport than a lawnmower.:D Let us know what you decide on. Bazza
