This covid thing is just the pits. My husband and I haven't really gotten out of town at all since Covid started and things shut down back in March. I'm sure it's the same for everyone else.

We are finally getting away this weekend to a resort out in western PA called Bedford Springs. I can't wait. It's right up near the Allegheny Mountains. There's hiking, golf, fire pits, a spa (although I doubt I do that). It'll be weird staying in a hotel, but I am looking forward to it.

I hope you all are well and are having the beautiful weather that seems to have come back to us in Pennsylvania.

Lucky you Laura and I hope you have a great time......it sounds like a great place although with the CoVid thing I would also pass on the spa for now ........have a drink or two for me ;):D:cool:

I haven't been out of the house since we bought the new car three and a half months ago although my wife has been taken out two times for cataract surgery and also for the initial post op checkups........our car has only done 600km in three and a half months and we live miles from anywhere :(

Lockdown has only just been lifted over here but my wife still hasn't had the final okay to drive again by the doctors after the two lots of eye surgery. Hopefully that happens next Wednesday and if everything is good then we will go somewhere the following weekend just to get out of the house

Here we’ve been placed back in lockdown so we can only go out for necessities like grocery shopping.
As before though so people are abusing the lockdown. And for some reason people are bulk buying toilet rolls - the shelves are empty.

It wasn't too bad in my patch. A short time with lock down passed quickly - catching up on projects with communication lines open on the phone and internet - so didn't miss much - could still do my walks (only up to two people could walk together - though it got tricky when in crowds keeping spatial distancing).

Our 2020 Melbourne Cup day of Tuesday, 3rd November in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia went ahead - though with a difference...of course, someone had to mark the day by "mooning" a reporter televising at the time.

I don't do public transport and face to face gatherings aren't a weekly thing, so life seemed pretty normal during that time anyway. Was amazed the way some friends were affected with lockdown. Guess it depends how one can cope with one's own company or set company (e.g. family member(s)).

Getting out of town was so nice and the weather really was spectacular... more like spring than fall. A 5 mile hike in the morning and golf in the afternoon. It almost felt normal.
Ugh...I don't even want to think about that possibility.

@legalsuit I heard Australia had pretty much eradicated Covid.

@LauraR - yeah, here we are pretty much handling COVID-19.

City of Melbourne (down in state of Victoria) was the "worst" hit. A friend down there spoke of lockdowns but working from home made no difference - just limitations on socialising.

We've had 22 deaths in Australia since January - so overall compared to overseas stats - that's pretty good. Everybody complied with government requests for isolation. Also, I guess with our border restrictions in place and Australia being an isolated island separated by oceans to other continents, pretty much is a positive.

Reckon it is a changed world - it will never go back to the way it was to how we now mix and socialise.

My heart goes out to those homeless unfortunates - they are so completely exposed, it has become a trying time even for the charities that used to help as most have had to also close their doors. I used to work as a volunteer in one of those shelters for youths which provided a homey sort of atmosphere, overseeing these youth during the day and after school which allowed a safe supervised haven for the kids with companionship and food until their parents got home. Even that has closed down now. Volunteers now go to some of the places and homes with food packages to help out - but human communication is what those people need most.

Pennsylvania had the worst spike yesterday in Covid-19 cases. Close to 5,500 new cases on 12 Nov. 2020. This seems like the 3rd wave.
I fear restaurants that were allowed to open at 50% capacity (this was up from 25% after months of complete closings) will be reduced back to 25% or have to do take out only and since winter is approaching, there won't be dine outside options.

Basically we have been inside 90% or more of the time since 16 March.

    What's happening in the US?
This is from less than an hour ago.

More people are getting tested. This could account for some of the numbers. (as I read it 9% increase) As far as the spike, I think some people are getting weary of this and have started to relax. You still need to wear a mask (why one gentleman in the grocery store this week didn't, escapes me; I stayed far away from him). You have to wear the mask properly. I see too many people not covering the nose. Sure the glasses fog up. It is a small price to pay to remain healthy. From my reading, the nose is the best place for the virus to land. It will also land in mouths and eyes but the nose is the primary spot.

Schools, colleges and universities are open. Too many people gathered together on buses and at sporting events. And of course university students need their weekend parties. You can't wear a mask and drink.
With the US celebrating Thanksgiving on Nov. 26th and some families insisting on holding large family gatherings, some school districts in my county have decided to close the schools for 2 weeks from 26th Nov. to try and stop the spread of infection. My school district has never opened. Everything is done online and all sporting seasons never started. There were marches to protest the lack of sports seasons but the superintendent felt he could not keep students attending our 19 schools as well as support staff safe.

It is interesting that the states that had few infections are now at the top of the list: North and South Dakota and Iowa. Perhaps the population in those states felt they were somehow immune and didn't take precautions.

I guess I'll have to watch the news and see what ideas they come up with for the increase.

    Ahhh COVID a PITA

For me seems new norm as to enter work (hospital) its security wanting ID, then we have hand santising satations with hospital masks, we take 2 as never know for me if I'm needed in clinic, generally office based as new direction from last Dec 2019 is me to setup and run a virtual clinic and TBH its worked well for last 18 months, lots of DNA (did not attends) as media scare folk not to go out when really health trumps scaremongering media.

Laura when I read SPA and FIREPIT I'm sold? I want!!!!

Hope all MGers are safe and well.

Supposedly mouthwash will kill Covid/Corona Virus on contact. However this news was released by one of the well known mouthwash manufacturers so is it true or just a ploy to sell more mouthwash.

True, but the study was done at Cardiff University.
However, the mouthwash doesn't reach the lungs.

We use mouthwash that is alcohol free so I had to read the story to see what the mouthwash has to contain.
    I found this
Now to read the labels on the bottles.
Just checked; mine has this but my husband's doesn't.

Well, the firepit was way too crowded and the spa didn't have an availability, BUT, the hiking was incredible and the weather was so nice. We did a 5.5 mile hike (8.8 km) and played golf after that. We had a great weekend when we went.

Yesterday it was MORe golf. lol...I'd be so done at this point usually, but there's nothing else really to do, so...

I did buy two new jigsaws. I'd imagine those will be coming out at some point, but not yet.
