Weird Desktop

The desktop comes up, the background is teal color, which my daughter swears use to be something else.

The tool bar on the bottom is black but the icons that load are seen. The clock is black. Click on the icons and the little popup window that hovers above those little icons next to the clock, is black. Just a black box. You can click in the box, and the right thing that is suppose to pop up does, but it too is a black window. started thew other day ,noticed the computer had paint open , and it was in sleep mode .

 

Can you attach a screenshot? Sounds to me like a desktop hijacker, but I would like to see to confirm.

Safe mode came up and the Windows log in screne popped up.

it would not let me enter the password, nor be able to control the cursor.



Here are a few pictures of the screen and the black areas as I right click on the desktop and then click on the bottom of the black menu and the properties pops up.

PS; box has never been hooked to the internet.

It is almost like one of my daughters friends, change the window colors to black on black

 

If it has never been on the internet then I doubt it's malware related.

What OS are you running? (ex. Win98, WinME, WinXP)

 

XP . could it be the video card or even the monitor ?

 

From what I can see based on the images, it looks as if there is a problem with the theme.

Try this, right click no the desktop and choose properties. Under the Themes Tab, choose "Windows XP" and select ok.

This will replace your current theme and should put everything back to default. Let me know if this does not work.

 

That was the first thing i tried bjgarrick . You can't see anything when you click on properties .

 

Does it come up and you just can't see it? If that's the case, try it again and when it comes up hit the W key and press enter. This should choose Windows XP and allow the change.
