weird power problem

well... i shutdown my computer the other day, can't remember why... when i pushed the power button again, nothing happened. so i checked the obvious, switches, plugs, etc. after a bit the button started working again. for some reason the startup didn't complete. shut down. same problem. well, i haven't had the problem since, but i had a funny feeling it could be a sign of bad power supply or mobo going out... any diagnostic suggestions? i know this comp in and out, built it myself, just never seen this before. thanks

 

ok, now i am seeing precursors to worse situations... when i switched on the computer this morning, i got the message: windows could not start because of a computer disk problem could not read from selected boot disk check boot path and disk hardware. went into setup, looked like one of my drives was not registering... exited and windows started! any ideas? i think i will ghost my drives today! :major

 

Have you checked your CMOS battery? It could be that you are loosing the BIOS settings. Is the time correct in the BIOS & in Windows?
It could even be that the mobo is starting to fail, but check CMOS battery first.

 

well, time is right. i will swap out batteries and see if it makes a difference. is there diagnostics to run to determine a faulty mobo?

I personally doubt that the problem is in the CMOS battery, but anything is possible. Did you try going into the BIOS an check the see if the boot initative has change. you know the part that has boot 1st from hard drive then so on. Mine changed paths on me once from something I did and I had to go in a reset it

This might help you out. Try setting it to boot from hard drive 1st and set the other 2 so after it.
