weird screen

ok so i searched the forum but didnt find anything to help i have a Dell XPS m1710 laptop with windows xp a few days ago the screen just went black no mouse showing on screen nothing had to hold down power button to power off restarted and got the dell start up screen but there were white dashes all over the screen then it goes black with green squares then the windows logo shows and then its just black tried starting in safe mode and the computer works but its almost like a checker board pattern in the back ground tried system restore tried check disc at start up and it worked the screen went back to normal in normal mode for a few hours now it wont work unless in safe mode tried again and it comes up in normal mode only after setting a check disc in safe mode but it doesnt stay on it blinks out help please:cry

 

Please confirm is this a Vista sytem?

Secondly have you tried either the VGA or DVI auxiliary output to external monitor?

Thirdly go to device manager and see if there have been any recent updates of the Nvidia driver. Try a rollback or system restore.

thanks no its not vista yes i hooked it to another screen but why it was connected it didnt black out so i dont know if it works on another screen while the laptop is black i will check on the driver and get back to u and i already tried system restore with no luck thanks again
