Weird symbols in email

Below is a sample of what I often get in my email client, Outlook Express.

“We will create products truly unlike anything on the market today.â€

What causes this and what can I do to correct it?

Do those weird symbols only appear in incoming email? In other words, do they not appear when you compose a message you are originating?

Do all incoming messages show these weird symbols or only ones from certain sources? Has it always done this or is this a recent development?

What anti-virus protection are you using?

 

Only in incoming mail - I don't think it's all mail - I haven't taken time to check the sources of the symbolic mails - it has only been for a recent while.

I use AVG Pro, Windows Defender, Ad-Aware.

 

I think you should observe it for awhile to look for a certain pattern, take notes, and then post again here with more details.

There's nothing mysterious or sinister involved. Those symbols are a result of your computer not able to read characters typed by someone using a keyboard set up for non-Western/Latin alphabets, ie, Cyrillic, Greek, Japanese, etc., that's all. There's no need for observation. It doesnt necessarily indicate any type of malware. If you're using Yahoo Mail, or any other mail service, they provide a virus scan for your incoming correspondence.

 

Thanks for the enlightenment. Now I can quit taking all those notes that an earlier message suggested!
