Hi all. I just received an Mvix MV-4000U today. For those who don't know it's an external hard drive enclosure with video outputs to view your videos on just about any TV. Here's a link. I ordered it from newegg, and it came with a 160gb Seagate hard drive. I installed the hard drive, plugged in the power supply, and then hooked up to my Desktop PC (Windows XP SP2) via USB 2. I plugged it into 1 of 5 empty ports on the back of my PC. Well once I plugged it in I instantly got a "Power Surge on Hub" error, and the PC will not recognize it. It won't install the driver, and the hard drive doesn't show up in Disk Management to partition it. What do I do?

Get a powered USB hub, your gadget draws more power than your pc can supply.

I thought that was what the external power supply was for. So it is drawing too much power even with its own separate power supply?

Sorry, just looked at the spec I didn't realise it already had its own power supply.

I would check your pc USB port is still working by plugging in another device. Then return the Mvix as faulty.

Ok well I did try it out with a separate powered hub anyway and I got the same error so I'll go ahead and try to exchange. Thanks.
