Weird virus/worm

Up until a few days ago my computer was fine but now every time I log on my desktop gets littered with these advertising icons saying "poker" or "bingo" or "casino online." The screen slowly fills up with these little icons, and after a few minutes if I click on my desktop the start bar gets frozen and if I try to minimize the last program I have up, it gets frozen as well. My virus scanner hasn't found anything, so if you know how to fix this, please help!

DL a copy of hijack this form somewhere like www.download.net or www.tucows.com and run the prog. It produces a log file which can be ul to a forum, not sure if this forum has a section for this, where expert help can be obtained. If this forum doesn't have this facility try http://forum.tweakxp.com/forum/ where they usually help quickly.

Also worth running a virus checker, you probably already have, also worth going to http://housecall.trendmicro.com or www.bitdefender.com/scan/Msie/index.php

for free online scans.

Also worth doing spyware checks with stuff like adaware, spybot or some such prog.

Ken's advice was a good start, however HJT can be downloaded from MajorGeeks, as can many/most programs necessary to clean up spyware/malware infestations. It would be a good idea to go to the Spyware Specific page on this forum, read the stickies at the top of the page, decide which apply to your situation, and go from there.

What Just Playin said. It sounds like you have spyware galore. Clean up your system with Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and put Spyware Blaster on there to help keep you clean. You may also want to try Mozilla Firefox as a new browser, as it doesn't get as much spyware as Intenet Explorer.
But, all this is covered in the tutorial. Run through that, and let us know the outcome.
