I just upgraded to Vista, which works flawlessly, save one important thing. The wireless connectivity is listed as "excellent" and there are no problems to be seen in the Network and Internet panel. All systems are go. All add-ons in IE7 are disabled, and I've turned off the firewall and phishing filters. Yet when I try to connect, I'm told the page cannot be displayed, no matter what URL I enter.

I plugged directly to my cable, thinking the wireless had a problem, but alas, I'm still in a pickle. I disabled all Startup items and scrubbed for spyware.

I used the Command window to ping cnn.com, just for grins:

Pinging cnn.com [64.236.16.52] with 32 bytes of data:

    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.

    Ping statistics for 64.236.16.52:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

So can someone far wiser than I please tell me what's up?

    You still having trouble?

Have you tried pinging google.com? Google responds to pings and is always worth trying. If that doesn't work, try ping 64.233.187.99 which is one of Google's numbers and see what happens.

You know, to resolve the problem I simply reinstalled Vista, as a last resort.

Now everything works perfectly. Go figure.
