Hello and sorry for the silly title of this thread. My problem is that I cant connect to the right wifi network but I can connect to my neighbours in one spot in the building.

The network I normally use is shared by the whole building and can be temperamental but recently I cant connect at all. I can on my phone and my partners laptop but for some reason my own Dell Inspiron is stubbornly refusing even when it shows full bars on the wifi signal. I've tried disabling/re-enabling and resetting the network but even when standing right underneath the router in the corridor it still won't work.
Weirdly I can connect to my neighbours private network (they lent me their password) when near there part of the building but I don't want to carry on doing this.
It is possible the issue stems from a recent windows 10 update which made my laptop think it has Intel Optane Memory. I have dealt with this issue but the wifi problem remains.

I'm not sure where else to go so I'd really appreciate any guidance for this even if it's just pointing me towards some relevant former posts.

    Thanks for your time.
    Chris

    Update
Just managed to connect briefly! Ran a speed test: 29mbps download. Tested speed on my phone and it was slower. Connected to the neighbours network and it was even slower. Tried to reconnect to the building network again and it doesnt work. Now seems to be allowing me to connect randomly for a few seconds but not long enough to run another speed test. Connection on phone is stable. Weird!

    Update 2
On troubleshooting the connection I got the following message:

"Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS) server is not responding"

I have tried everything listed in the following web link: https://helpdeskgeek.com/help-desk/fix-windows-cant-communicate-with-the-device-or-resource-error/ with a brief moment of the connection working for a few minutes.

To clarify: This is a shared network but I get a stable connection on my phone and other devices so it doesn't seem to be a problem with the router. But also, I can get a stable connection to my neighbours wifi on this laptop so it cant be a problem with my onboard connector (Intel(R) Wireless-AC 9260 160MHz)

Still very confused and in need of advice!

There isn't much you can do. Be glad other devices have access. Since you have no control over the modem or router, you can't go in and configure things.

There must be some way! I need access on my laptop. And although connection is iffy at times, it's never been this bad until recently... possibly due to the windows update I mention in the first post.

Have the manager check on their end. May be something in a log.

Check your Hosts file just in case.

Thanks for your replies. I was hoping there is some way I can tweek the relationship between my laptop and the network myself but I see that the general consensus is that this is something that is out of my control.

Imandy Mann - Could you elaborate on what you say? Unfortunately, it's hard for me to find someone who will take responsibility for the wifi here but do you think it may be something that can be sorted by the network provider?

Earthling - Thanks for the advice. I have already tried going to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and deleting the contents on Notepad, if this is what you mean.

Someone with admin access would be able to see log-on and log-offs. And maybe even reason for denials, excess usage, improper programs or anti-virus situations, too much streaming and even file sharing download attempts. But you need to find the owner.

Without access to the full network (which is outside of your control), it's going to be difficult to pinpoint the problem(s).

In your shoes, I would be tempted to run wifi in 'client bridge mode' on this laptop to see if that can solve the problem. This would require you purchasing a small / cheap piece of hw but it's easy to configure.

This will do the job, I use a couple of these myself and it has dual band also
