    Hello -
I have an XP partition, 14GB, almost 2GB free. No large files.
PD 11 is unable to get the free space consolidation to work successfully,
either using SmartPlacement or a Free space consolidation pass,
the report tells me free space fragmentation is high, run
    SmartPlacement (which I just did).

I run a single pass of the "fast consolidate" of Disktrix, DefragExpress.
(which took about 5 minutes) -
I re-analyze with PD 11 and now it tells me free space fragmentation is
low, and my drive is optimized for peak performance.

I have tried PD 12.5 but have had the same issues. In fact, 12.5
was worse. The only use to me of this product, working like this, is
    the great boot time defrag.

Anybody seen this, or have any idea's?

    Too little free space.
If it is not an ssd then you should have 20% of the drive free. It will run at 15% free but I suspect you have less than that available.
Also ssd drives DO NOT get defragged.

Clean some things off the 14GB partition then try it again.

OK - I'll get a little more free space and re-try. It is less than 20% now
(close to 15%), but Disktrix's DefragExpress has no problems with it,
    and they're all small files ( perhaps 4 or 5 in the 80 - 100 MB range).
Should be easy to move those around.

I had an incident open with Raxco that went nowhere. They looked at
various reports from the program I had sent them - frankly they didn't seem
interested at all. Raxco themselves never mentioned the free space.

It'll take about a week to recreate the disk conditions- I'll get back to this
    thread then. Thanks.

I finally gave up on 12.5 and reverted to PD 7.
I have to believe 12.5 has issues in certain scenarios. For example,
I used Smartplacement but turned on "aggressively consolidate free
    space" in the drive properties.
The partition is only 14GB (20% free), all small files.
On the "drive map" you can see the data is already at the top.
After about 20 minutes it had moved hundreds of MB's down to the bottom and
seemed to be shuffling them around, as it moved more files down.
    What is it doing?
It didn't look as if it was getting anywhere except churning the files around.

I uninstalled 12.5 and installed 7 and let it handle the mess created
as mentioned. In about 10 minutes, it was complete. No further files
were moved down, the data/free space was consolidated and optimized re:
    smartplacement.

All the reviews talk about how great 12.5 is, but I wonder if they
look at the manual defrag in detail?
