Hi ! Can anyone tell me if it's possible to add my name to the WELCOME screen only. I have xp (home) sp3 IE7. When my computer starts and a screen or two later I get the screen where it says "Welcome" . I am trying to find a way to add my name to it. "Welcome Frank" ( that's me ). I have gone into "regedit" , and to the uihost where it says "welcome" . I did add my name ,but there was no change on the screen. Am I missing a step, or can it not be done. I do have a wav sound when the welcome screen comes up, but would also like to see my name on it. Thanks for any help.

In Control Panel > User Accounts click on Change the Way Users Log on and Off, and then check Use the Welcome Screen. If that doesn't do it then check Fast User Switching too.

Sorry earthling, that's not what I'm looking for. I am the only user on this comp. The logon page does not show when I start the comp. I just get the welcome page after the windows page with the little bar underneath it goes away. The screen does say welcome, and that is the page I'm trying to get my name to show along side it. Again, I don't know if it can be done. If Microsoft didn't charge $59 to email their tech support i would ask them. I don't think having ones name show is worth that price. Just thought it would a cute thing to see. Be nice if a programmer would come up with that. Lot's of people have computers, and sure they would like to see their name in print. Thanks again. Anyone else have any ideas if it can be done??

That's a bit odd then. Both my laptop and a XP virtual machine in Vista have XP Home SP3 and I am the only user, and using the settings I gave above I get what you are looking for -

Hello Earthling. Guess we're both up late. I have windows xp, am I right in reading your email that you have Vista. Maybe that's why it would not work. AHH, but here is the kicker. Wanting a new welcome screen, I did a search and there was this" logon studios". Well, I grab a few of their screens and did an edit . Up comes their screen with the logon logo. That takes me to the registry with the string tables. Go to number 7. There is the word "welcome". So I add my name . Now I get what I was looking for. Fooled around with a couple more of the logon screens, and I have one saying "How are you today" . So I'm again a happy camper. Thanks for your replys. Take care. Love these forums. A person can learn alot from them.

Not up late - I'm the other side of the pond ;) I'm going to take a look at what you've found and maybe give one or two family members a bit of a surprise next time they log on to their comps :-D Can hear it now - hey, something's happened to my PC :confused
