So I used to computer repair back in oh..say 2003-2005 and then kinda fell off the radar and one thing I remember is how quickly things advance in the tech world. So here I am 2014 and I received a Dell All in One (omg ik right) computer from my family since over time I had lost all my computers or they had become so outdated and I had no money or time to update them she gifted me this box...ty mom. Anyways, I have had this box for quite a while, I am using it right now to post this message, but recently I had a few issues and I think I may have done something terribly wrong. Originally the only two accts on the computer were admin and moms. I changed moms to be mine but I think all I really did was change the name of the profile but eh. Anyways, after about a year of many many hours of usage I started noticing issues arising with Vista and this computer. Now when I say issues, I refer to missing icons on the systray and having them grayed out and uncheckable so as I couldnt view my wireless connection status or change the volume from taskbar. I ran multiple CCleaner and AVG Scans, along with quite a few malwarebyte scans and nothing ever came up. So i decided to create a new acct for me and delete the old acct. Little did i know that nothing that was just on that acct wasnt backed up and after I deleted the acct it asked if I wanted to keep the files which I did and it put them on the new accts desktop. Ok, no problem ill just move them back where they go and move on. Not so easy. Turns out now only the admin acct has all my movies, music, pictures etc, and my newly created acct has the settings from the old acct. Let me tell you I have spent over 24 hours straight trying to figure this out and this is a last resort as one of the few things I learned when working on computers is that google is the answer to all lol. And if you ask it the right question then you can get the answer you need. Well no not if you dont know the right question to ask I discovered. I now have the two accts, only the admin acct will let me do anything that I want to do like watch movies or listen to music. The other acct works fine but none of my files are actually there. I can load my MMO game from it, but I don't know how. Also AVG wont load and I cant uninstall it and reinstall it due to some group policy error. Can't get windows update to work on either acct. I really have this feeling I destroyed this computer and my best bet is to wipe and reinstall but trying to move all my data from this a USB drive since i dont own an external drive or a DVD Burner that works I honestly wouldnt even know how to save important stuff such as game settings and the like. I know this is all so vague and I will be immensely impressed if anyone can make since of this, but I need help. Also admin tools are empty gpedit.msc doesnt do anything multiple services are stopped and cant restart. HELLLP. Ask me what I need to tell you and I will. Tell me where to start what to do I am in all your hands and will accept any help I can get. I can manage using this computer as of now minus the fact I lost a lot of files and the recovery partition while being full doesnt have a backup anywhere but 3 days ago. I guess I could slowly reinstall everything on the admin acct where my stuff is and then what? IDK. Thank you gentlemen and ladies for any help or feedback. I hope to hear something soon.
