I really hate to leave you guys and gals but it was fun blowing through the ranks with just a GTX260-216.:p:) My experiments didn't work with my AMD X2 CPU so I'll just be folding with a regular GUI systray client to soak up some of the extra available cycles.:)

I'll still be here of course to answer any and all questions that I can, heck I'm still an MG rat eh?:-D

Fold on brothas and sisters!:wine:wave

EDIT: I might be back with an i7 next summer. That would be sweet!:yum

The points are appreciated augie.:cool
(And you did hit second top producer a couple of times with just the one rig.:-D)

Damn - Did 10% of my 4 year production in 15 days with one rig. Shows the power of GPU folding as opposed to single-core CPU folding on older comps.

Don't feel bad.
I'm using 3 single CPU rigs( all (4 HTs) for a longer period than him and got passed without even seeing him coming.

I know all about the CPU production as I only started GPU folding May '08. You should see the i7 produce! :eek 20K PPD just with CPU folding.:drool

Alright, where are the instructions for that augie?:confused
(But I ain't doing no OC.;))

Thx. for the points boost augie. :major

I have only done the gpu this past year on a few cheap cost 8600GT and hope to find a few 8800GT's as not into the higher end gpu cards because of the electrical costs involved.

I have lately heard of a newer type gpu core goes by the name Fermi.

I don't OC my CPUs, just the video cards as it's just a slider. No pushing voltages or changing FSB etc. for me, I just check the temps on my GPU's when it gets hot outside and that's not a problem for the next 8 months.-D

The Intel i7 can fold with 8 virtual cores but for the moment that's only available in native Linux, with an OC'd i7 920 @3.66GHz using the -bigadv flag and -smp 8. Since neither you nor I OC, we won't get the 20K PPD as we wouldn't be able to finish the WU in time.

I'm just parroting what others have said.;)

I just priced an i7 rig reusing my case, PSU, GPU and drives. The EVGA X58 ATX LGA1366 DDR3 3PCIE-16 with CPU and 6GB triple channel RAM will run me $900 total so maybe by Christmas.:drool Plenty of room for expansion but I will eventually need a new case and PSU if I go tri GPUs, no way my little Antec case has enough ventilation for that!

Anyways, that's what's on my wish list Santa.:-D

On the other hand you have the Radeon 5870 that's available now with triple the cores of the Fermi but the poor thing is all dressed up with nowhere to go as far as folding goes, not yet anyways.

I hear ya on the electricity costs though I would rather have one machine running an uber folding GPU card rather than several lesser cards in multi machines. There's always the overhead from PSU, RAM, mobo, drive(s) and fans just to support the GPU though I have no hard facts to back that up ATM.

I'm sure that running my old 1GHz Celeron with CPU folding would not be worth the points vs the costs. Just my take on it. I'll try to find something on PPD vs electricity costs, maybe someone undertook that challenge.

Have you looked at the Antec 900 case? Lots of holes and fans plus a 12cm on top.
I've got a 3870x2 in #1 PCI-E slot on my Asus P6T and it is a tight fit but doable on that length of card. Picture

Ibmest, wows, need some cable management... Antec does make nice cases. :-D

Noprob, I have several GPU's laying around, IM me if interested.

This is what mine looks like. What was I thinking when I got that? Four 5 1/4" optical bays? Who the heck needs that?:confused LOL @ cable management here!:-D

So you getting out of folding Fred or upgrading? You have/had some decent powah there my friend.:wine

Jeez, almost everytime someone posts a pic, the rig has a Zalman in there, must be a reason for that.:-D

I know I do. I'm working on it, bit by bit.
The power supply does not have modular cables so that's part of the problem.
(But it is a rock-solid PCPower & Cooling.;) Went for dependability and 1 rail.)

I have one too and never could make it that nice, maybe I didn't try hard enough. :-o One does have to get a proper PSU with tower length cables and a few 90 degree connectors for the sideways mounted hard drives as the cables on my Corsair TX750W were really too thick to bend that much so that the side cover would be able to get on easily.

At least I have a model of a clean case that I can follow, I've always been in too much of a rush to just 'get 'er goin''!:-D When I get my i7 in early next year, I will transplant it into that case as it is a good case with plenty of ventilation and I will get it right this time!;) Too bad I don't recognize that PSU.

This is how mine looks now.
Just like you i will put my i7 build in the case in the following months.

Hey, that's nice man. At least you had enough cable length to route that 4-pin around the mobo instead of across it! Means a lot if you have a windowed side.:cool I'm not going to do anything until I build my i7 as there's no real point to it ATM.

Missed this thread. I am not out of folding, just cutting back for a bit until my finances get better. Don't buy a cheap timing chain for your engine... Very bad things can happen. :-D

This is a picture of my backup computer, and my first attempt at cable management.

No spare coolers, sorry. They are not expensive though. Let me know when you get closer to getting th $ and I will get them packed and boxed up.
